Bought my daughter a Macbook Pro

Can you give some examples as to why you think Windows is counter-intuitive?

Sure. Here's a comparison of uninstalling an application in windows and OSX.

Windows:
Start -> Control Panel
Add / Remove programs
Select program
Remove / Uninstall
Next, Next, Remove all components, Finish, reboot (sometimes not that often)

OSX:
Applications
Drag application to trash.

So I've been thinking about getting the wife a Macbook Air for grad school. However, most of the applications she will be using are windows only. Could I run windows 7 in a vm nicely if she wanted to keep OSX?

i never thought that draging something to the trash to uninstall it was intuitive. i actually had to google to figure out how to do it

You made the original assertion. It's up to you to make your claims.

Actually, it isn't. I am under no obligation to quantify my opinion to you, an Apple Fanboi (the use of a space between OS and X gives you away - I'm sure it annoys you that "Windows commoners" don't use the "correct" spelling and instead loop them altogether). You are of course free to disagree with me, please, do so.

Now, run along, I'm sure the crusade is a heavy task for you and I'm sure you have other threads to take up the cause in.

That's the point. You've been conditioned to install/uninstall which is in fact counter-intuitive. The real-life metaphor for installation/de-installation is to drag the object to where you want it and when you're done chuck it out.

I didn't use a space between OS and X, I gave an example of what I think, will you explain it to me? I'm a linux user the majority of the time, but I definitely think that OSX is the most intuitive.

So, in other words, you have no argument and it's just your opinion, ergo nobody gives a shit what you think.

The fact that you use the word "fanboi" (with the dickish spelling and all) speaks volumes as to your character.

PS: The name of the product is "OS X". What, I am some kind of evangelist because I write it out correctly? If I wanted to be pedantic I'd write it as its proper name "Mac OS X" or point out it's "OS ten" not "OS "ex".

I've been thinking of trying out a mac so I've been in search of a reasonably priced older macbook. Haven't found one I'm willing to pay for so far. Also they are kinda big and heavy so I'm having a hard time justifying the expense just to see if I want to try it out.

I doubt your average Mac user ever uses the CLI... 🙂

Ask them when Unix is and see what they say. 🙂

Watch it! They might bash you in the head and fsck your day!

I like to play around under the hood on cars, computers, and boats even. This is why I don't fly kites.

For windows, you also need to run a registry cleaner to remove all of the registry entries for that application.

I love my MBA, latest model. The build, the finish, the screen (decent res on a 12-13"), the trackpad has no comparison in the market, the OS, the gestures. I hate using a mouse on my mac after having a touchpad. I like that I have a boot partition for Windows if I need it and that I can run Parallels using that partition so i don't have to manage 2. It's solid, light, and perfect for what I need at home.

With that said, I'm not a gamer, and it's not perfect, but it comes closer than any windows machine I've used. It's got a premium but I'm okay with that, because it's not for nothing.

I have an iMac upstairs which keeps it simple, since I'm no longer a hardcore user, but the 27" screen on it and processing power are all that I need, in a slim machine that's perfect for what I use it for.

I've used PCs most of my life and I made the switch over a few years ago. I never really cared for Steve Jobs or the things I heard about how the company is/was run, but I don't really care. Apple makes products I like to use, that have good fit and finish, reliability, and don't frustrate me like their counterparts.
