I doubt it very much.

We need to get that mass storage controller "un-flagged" and it should see your hdd then.

We just need to figure out what drivers you need.

Alright. I appreciate the help. I've got work in 6 hours. I'll be back to check the thread in the morning, hopefully I can get it working before I go to work.

Thanks all for your time thus far.

Why not just buy an external enclosure and put your drive in that?

They aren't that expensive and they're a great thing to have.

You haven't formatted the drive or anything, so I'm sure your data is still there.

yes, that would work.

but wouldnt it still drive you nuts knowing you have something flagged in device manager?

I know it would me. cuz i'd always know that my pc just isnt right.

I wish i could find info on which sata ports on that mobo are the jmicron ones and which ones are the sil ones.

This should be easy to fix, all ya need is a driver.

Whats listed in device manager under SCSI and Raid Controllers?

Usually you'll have to update the sata driver manually by right clicking on that flagged mass storage controller and selecting update driver and pointing it to the drivers that you need.
They are usually drivers that come with a utility to put them on a floppy disc so you can install them by hitting F6 during a windows installation.
They rarely have an installation utility of thier own, you usually have to do it manually from device manager.

I run that board.

Just to verify, which SATA controller are you plugged into? If it's the SATA2 controller that is on its own, then you need the JMicron driver. If it's one of the other 2 (normal SATA 1 ports, situated both next to one another), then you need a working version of the ULI drivers.

I suggested the enclosure because that would be a sure way to see that your files are ok, while also being a handy bit of kit for any PC enthusiast. I also know that this board, however much I may love it, can have problems with network card drivers and such. Dunno whether this also applies to SATA drivers.

If I understand correctly:

My Current Setup:
Primary HDD: SATA Controller.
Secondary w/backup data: SATA1 Port.

What I've Tried:
I've taken the backup hard drive out of the SATA1 and put it in 'SATA2?'. Nothing changed. I also tried plugging the primary hdd into the SATA1 port, and the secondary into SATA2. However, when displaying the loading Vista bar, it blue screened and restarted. So I had to revert back to the way it is now.

Right, if what you say above is correct, to get the backup drive working in the SATA 1 port, you need a Vista-ready set of ULI drivers.

I'm not sure these exist though, I'm gonna have a look around now..

I think you *may* be out of luck at the moment in terms of Vista drivers for your SATA 1 controller. I looked around Asrock's, ULI's and NVidia's sites and found nothing for Vista. They did have drivers for XP64, I think they're the last they were gonna make for this board.

However, you may wish to try the ULI SATA drivers listed here, 3rd from bottom of drivers list:

http://www.asrock.com/mb/downl...Model=939Dual-VSTA&s=n

They are meant for the 939 Dual VSTA board, but that uses the same chipset as the Dual Sata 2 (ULI M1695 Northbridge, ULI M1567 Southbridge) and is a very similar board.

I have a sneaky feeling these *might* work, they are also listed as being Vista compatible. Give them a try. Can't do any real harm. I know people have used drivers for the Dual VSTA on the Dual Sata 2 and they have worked.

I will try these.

EDIT: Works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only did it fix my hard drive detection, but my internet doesn't take 10 seconds to work anymore!

Yall rock. Thanks!

Good stuff. :)

Other users of the Dual Sata 2 may also encounter this problem, so good that you posted back Coldkilla.
