Looks like geeks.com coughed up customer information, including Visa credit card numbers, to
a group of hackers on Dec 5, 2007.

So much for the "HACKER SAFE" banner they proudly display at the bottom of their website...

I'll have to rethink this one. I was so confident that advertising "hacker safe" was the way to go, I put a sign in front of my house "impenetrable to thieves".:D

Virtual credit cards/Shopsafe/one store use numbers FTW.

Pretty much all I use now when shopping online. Good thing too, since I ordered something right before they discovered the breach.

I didn't get an email from Geeks.com though.

Which cards offer those these days? I think some Citibank cards still offer a single-use number feature?

I didn't think those guys actually stored the CC info. I thought it went to some CC processer.

Hackersafe tests sites daily. However; new exploits are always figured out. It's like a virus checker. When a new virus comes out it's possible the checker will not know about it and you will be infected. Still it's better than nothing.

Like it's not bad enough that the one time I was dumb enough to order from these jerks, their site gets hacked. I probably used my visa too.. Geeks has been nothing but a prolonged headache for me, and this solidifies the already laid brick wall which I put up between me, and any further business with this site.

To all of you (I'm sure you're in the majority) who have had no problems before this with geeks, I tell you I am not the least bit surprised.

I may be the victim of these guys. I had a charge of $600 show up on my statement for tickets to Italy. I called my cc and cancelled the card and challenged the charges.

OOPS ... bought a PCMCIA adapter from them in December. I even was on the site browsing last night, so the paper bag image on the linked site is now quite appropriate.
