Ignorance is bliss eh?

Don't fault the player until you're using decent headphones.

More importantly don't try to give ANY impression of the sound quality of the player (positive or negative) when you're using those POS buds.

I personally feel there's nothing wrong with my Third Gen 20GB iPod, it does what I want it to and I've had it for a long long long time. However, the headphones that came with it were total junk.

I must also say, I don't really even consider the "shuffle" an iPod, because it's just a stick of memory and that's it.

That's just me though I guess...

By saying the stock buds aren't horrible you're saying sound quality isn't important. It goes far beyond music not being muffled, hissy or having pops.

Goddamnit, not this again. We have been over this many times. While Apple may advertise much more than most other companies, you have yet to prove this makes them charge as much as you act like they do.
Where does the money come from then? Does it grow on trees? Does Apple operate at a loss?

Please show me how the iPod costs SOOOO MUCH. Honestly, I would like to know. You act like it is 2x the cost of other players when in reality it is usually no more than $50 more, or even equal.

sounds like the ipod haters are out in droves. I use my 4G 20GB ipod for 8 hours a day at work and before that I had a 4G ipod mini i used all day at work. Been happy with both.

Show me one MP3 player that has a better user interface than the 4G 20GB ipod....

I have a 1GB Shuffle and I think it's sound quality is very good. Sure it's not going to be "awesome" but considering most of my collection is 128-192kbs MP3's I think it sounds just fine. I've noticed the good bass, especially considered to some 1st and 2nd gen Ipods. I occasionally hook my Shuffle up to my Denon receiver in 5CH mode and relax to some random tunes. The ear-bud headphones aren't very good, but they can easily be replaced. Plus I use mine as a flash drive here and there since I rarely have more than 500-600MB of MP3's on it at any time.

Oh and I've been using an excellent plugin for Winamp called ml_iPod that makes throwing a bunch of tunes on a total snap! :) Overall I'm very happy with my Shuffle, only problem is my son wants one too!

again you guys read too much into what i said...i am comparing it the actual ipod and the actual ipod's quality is higher. sure they BOTH could sound better with better headphones but in the end the shuffle is still lacking in comparison

Why pay even a cent more? Still waiting on your answer btw. If money does indeed grow on trees, I wholeheartedly apologize - and if you'd let me know the location of said trees, I'd appreciate it ;)

Honestly, he's right. I have an iPod, and I love it, but if I had a different player that I could drag/drop files to, I'd be happier.

Anyone looking for good sound quality out of earbuds deserves any labels of idiocy applied to them. Therefore, I laugh in the face of anyone talking about "Ipod Music Quality"

The Muvo 512MB TX FM is a fantastic player. Got it for $70 w/ some coupons and a Dell special. Much better value than the Shuffle.... but the buds suck too.

What do you guys recommend for good ear buds?

Honestly? They don't exist.

I mean, I'm no audio expert by any stretch, but there's no way in hell speakers that small have the frequency ranges, power output, and driver excursion needed to it right at any decent volume you could hear over ambient noise. It just can't be done. It's f*cking physics.

If you want good sounding portable music, that's what cars are for, and even then they can't match a good, square room because of their asymmetrical shapes.

Why pay even a cent more?

Because the interface is better.

That's like asking why a BMW is better than a Civic when the Civic gets better gas millage...it is an open-ended question that only exists to further your unsubstantiable claim and has no real merit behind it because you fail to address a larger picture...

In truth they are indeed more expensive in many cases, but without the "papier" to back it up they are just the words of a man who surmises everything that suits him...

..and honestly, I hate defending my fvking ipod, and I hate having to defend it from the likes of you.

Why is it that I went out and spent my money on a nice toy for myself, as did others, so that we could just enjoy our music in peace, and then have to deal with your horseSh!t about our bad decisions.

Yes the fvking ipod is expensive.
Yes it is a fvking status symbol.
Yes other devices have better sound quality.

who the fvk are you to make us feel like we bought sh!t.

I am really getting tired of you dude. I don't give a fvk what you have, jsut fvking enjoy it.

I of all people enjoy a nice lively discussion but you continue on and on barading everyone who has one, sneaking in snide comments, informing people of a "truth" that is as indefensible as one can make them.

Just STFU, listen whatever you lsiten to, criticize in moderation and stop being suck a dick.

I've been somewhat blunt in my past arguments, it's true. On the other hand, ipod fans have been extremely brash on the subject, far moreso than I've ever been. Your problem then lies not with being adamant about it, since if that were the case you'd be flaming ipod fans more than me, but instead with me having an opinion differing from your own. Must be nice being that narrowminded, the 'with us or agaisnt us' mindset has always been a tool for smallminded people to avoid real thought. I'm sorry I don't allow the circle jerks you want on the subject, but until I'm banned or open discussion becomes disallowed here, you'll have to deal with someone not agreeing with you. That's life, as you'll find more & more as you grow older.

That being said, more recently I've tried to focus more on the player and specific points against it than making any generalizing statements or things which could be taken offensively by the more hairtriggered members. Unfortunately, to a fanboy even statements of fact can be taken offensively, which you've proven here by flaming me. You couldn't even base it fully on my point, so instead you dredge up the past. By responding so childishly you're doing Apple and ipods a disservice rather than providing the defense you think you're giving them, so I can really only sit back & laugh.

Due...the way you turned that around on me was really classy:thumbsup:

-Being narrowminded and knowing when to hold ones own tongue when appropriate are no one and the same. To act as persistently and as crass as you have on many ocassions is quite evident if we were to use the "search" function. You are not the worst, but don't paint yourself as a saint either.

-Over the time that I have spent in your prescene you have always been the one with the fanboi attitude nad the brash attitude. I'll admit that the Ipod fanbois have been douches, but is that your defense, that the "other guys" were Worse? C'mon, if you have any self-respect, which I believe most people do, you would be honest and realize that you are quite an offender.

-My stance on the ipod has never been that it is perfect, but it does what I, and many others, feel that we need it to do. If anything, I love itunes+ipod more than my jsut my ipod.

-I am not on a hair trigger. If anything, you have beaten the pacefism out of me.

..and then you go ahead and say

more recently I've tried to focus more on the player and specific points against it than making any generalizing statements or things which could be taken offensively by the more hairtriggered members.

Don't you see what you have admitted to? You've shifted your thesis recent haven't you. why? my goal is not to ""own" you or anthing. It is simply to let you know what you do is very disruptive and gets nothing done.

So many young minds enter these forums, and they tend to learn such bad habits from all the old folks around here.

urgh..this is alwaysso tiresome.

We exchange blows and in the end nothing gets done.

Whatever dude. I am just trying to let you know that there are better ways to push your agenda which are perfectly acceptable, but you take the easy way out.

You're not a tool, or a douche, or a fvktard or anything.

Your're jsut passionate.....and fvking lazy, as am I.

If you truly read my posts you'll see what I mean... I've never responded to an ipod thread by namecalling, making a personal attack against anyone or by stating my view on ipods without giving good reason. What more can you ask for other than me not stating my opinion (which isn't going to happen)? Without fail I get attacked for it; told that ipods are good not because of <reasons 1, 2 and 3>, but because I'm a <insert name here>, because I should "stfu", etc. I haven't changed my thesis, I've simply realized that if I call someone childish because their response to my debate points is "stfu ur dummyhed", I'll be lambasted for it due to their strerngth in numbers and have their assumption be that I'm calling them childish for liking ipods. I'd like to have more faith in the intelligence of my fellow man, especially on a tech board which should have the cream of the intellectual crop... but I've been let down :(

How so? I'm commenting on the group mentality here, not liking/disliking ipods.

Funny though, getting this from someone who so blatantly attacked me not long ago that he got his posts deleted, the thread locked and a mod warning ;)
