Not very happy...the sound quality is below average. A few songs sound decent but others are too air-e. Now before you comment about it being an ipod..my regular ipod sounded way better than this shuffle. The lack of screen is not important to me because i know what song is on as soon as i hear it. Fm tuner would've been nice but would''be drained the battery quicker and very rarely is there a song on the radio i don't have. Other than that it's a simple, straightforward player that's a pleasure to use. But all that won't save it if sound quality is not up to par. Going to give it a few more days but not looking good for the shuffle.

Sound quality from 128 - 320

why would you ever consider an ipod? If you need a good player, there are plenty out there like an iriver based one/creative based one. I'd return it if I were you and get another player because you've clearly seens it's already crap.

Is that stupid option in iTunes to convert everything to AAC 128kbps on? If it is, that might be why you think it suxxorz.

Maybe because, despite its price tag, it does an excellent job doing what it's supposed to?

The Shuffle didn't do too well with MaximumPC, I wouldn't get it because it doesn't have a screen. A friend of mine has one and I guess she likes it but what does she know about MP3 players. I heard it got really loud though.

Why bother owning a 60GB iPod if you're not going to use? Where do you work?

I have the iPod skin for Winamp because it's so innovative but I wouldn't buy an iPod ever.

So do other players, and they're less expensive & sound better. There's a very simple fact that you cannot get around; advertising costs money, and lots of it. Especially during sports playoffs, which Apple does. That money has to come from somewhere, otherwise Apple would lose money.

Btw OP, the headphones most players come with, Apple or otherwise, are *garbage*. If you have another pair - any pair - try them out and see if the phones, rather than the shuffle, are to blame. Also do yourself a favor and look into getting a nice pair of phones. Claiming sound quality isn't important is just another way of saying "I've never heard a nice setup" ;)

My Iriver H10 came with Sennheiser MX400's which are quite nice.

Ya, that's why I said most - some Irivers and Rios come with those Senns.

sound quality is important...its the whole reason for this thread and the only thing i think the shuffle is lacking in.. the headphones that do come with the ipods arent great but they arent horrible either. i used the same headphones on the shuffle than listened to the same song on my ipod...the ipod won hands down. if i did get some nicer headphones it could improve quality a little bit..but also could surface more flaws...at the end of the day, the shuffle's quality still isn't up to par with the regular ipod and i am saddened by it :(

Goddamnit, not this again. We have been over this many times. While Apple may advertise much more than most other companies, you have yet to prove this makes them charge as much as you act like they do.

By saying the stock buds aren't horrible you're saying sound quality isn't important. It goes far beyond music not being muffled, hissy or having pops.

Where does the money come from then? Does it grow on trees? Does Apple operate at a loss?

I have a shuffle and I love it. I actually have no problem with sound quality at all, going through any of the headphones it came with, cheap sony 'street style' headphones, or my Sony MDRV700's.
