Bought an E-bike yesterday

I'm not "in need" really but standing up 8-10hrs/day in a cold environment cutting meat takes a lot out of a 58yr old guy. I will also use it without any assist at times to help conserve battery life, Li-po battery-packs are not cheap.

Rocky is that you? :sneaky:

I too live 2 miles from work but there is no shoulder on the road to my work. Too many ass holes I'd have to worry about ending my life prematurely.

is the ebike is not enough , perfect time to get an old school Triumph or Honda . I saw a 305 dream at a garage sale in near new condition . Long story , it was sold and being rolled away.Guy paid 200 for it .

Hipsters have made those old Honda's worth WAY more than they should be. I'd love an old CB650 but if it runs it's usually priced close to 2 grand, more than what the bike cost when it was new!

lol, no they don't. It is the cost of doing business when half your inventory or more is stolen goods.

Really?, here's from Cash America's website had to say about stolen items and pawn-shops,
"
Are pawnshops stocked with stolen merchandise?

Less than 1 percent of items are identified as stolen goods.

Pawnshops are actually the worst place to try and get rid of stolen merchandise, despite what you see on television or in the movies. Pawnshops are highly regulated, work very closely with local and federal law enforcement officials, and train their staff to be on the lookout for and identify stolen property. In addition, Cash America’s pawnshops all utilize an Internet-based crime-fighting tool called leadsonline.com, in which every pawn transaction is shared with police departments nationwide on a daily basis."

So if someone paid $1,600 for a bike and it was stolen they would notify police and they would notify local pawn shops as again, if they buy something stolen and it's ID'ed buy the legit owner they have to turn it over and eat what they paid for it. Also remember the person who brought it in HAD THE FACTORY CHARGER INCLUDED, who rides an E-bike and totes the charger along when it can easily go 20 miles before a re-charge is needed. The key is for the battery tray lock, not the bike, they probably had planned on getting it out off pawn.

Just like ATOT to try and shit all over a guy for something that shouldn't even be controversial.

Purchase makes perfect sense to me! I always wonder if I shouldn't hit up my local pawn shops more often for things I need/want.

Pretty much, it's either "how dare you got a good deal, it's stolen and it's YOUR FAULT" or "I'd get a normal bike" which would have cost just as much for a decent one AND he can still pedal this one if he wants...

Good purchase and for 270 USD, that's a steal. What's the range on these bikes?

The owners manual states 25-27 miles but I don't think that's realistic using just battery power alone. That's the neat part about these bikes is that you have 5 levels of "assist" in where you do pedal and help push but with much less effort. Riding in "assist" mode probably will get you 20+ miles easily, riding on battery alone probably more like 10-12. I plan on using "assist" mode most of the time to conserve battery life.

Yup, it only weighs 55lbs so it's not hard to pedal without power if you want the exercise or your battery has dropped down to to low a level, at that point the built-in battery management system shuts it down to prevent killing the battery. Sometimes pawn shops do not do the homework on what something costs new although I don't know why, if you Google "Sun electrolite" you will see several dealers selling it for $1,600. This is considered an "entry-level" LI-po powered bike, most of them can run $2-5K which is nutty $$ to me.

Shoot, they had a nice Sharp "37 smart-TV for $199, manager said he'd let it go to me for $150. You'd be amazed at the stuff people pawn, they had a fully chromed-out Harley fat-boy for sale!.

That's a nice buy, man! I would love to have one of those, because screw peddling. Is there a wight limit to those bikes and the motor working though? LOL I have gained some weight.

That's the sweet thing about it though, you can pedal "assisted" and still get exercise, it's almost like pedaling down a light grade. I don't think weight will be an issue unless your a land-monster.

It's a slippery slope, now go join Endless Sphere's forums, you'll be doomed for life 🙂

Good deal, btw, the battery pack prob retails for $270.

I thought about doing something like that, but I already have a nice commuter's bike. It's already getting cold, but I just put on a coat, it's not rocket surgery.

Probably a lot more TBO, I priced 36V 10 AH Li-po batteries on Ebay around $250 but this one was custom-made for the bike maker so you will have to buy a replacement through a dealer, I would expect to pay around $5-600 or buy a generic one and make it work. Hopefully that's years down the road.
