Bought an E-bike yesterday

Since I only drive 2.2 miles to work and most of the stores I go to are close by I was thinking of a scooter but above 49cc you need a motorcycle endorsement on your license ($250 fee for the mandatory school), $140 for the tag plus at least $4-600 for a decent used scooter. So I found this at a local pawn shop, paid $270 OTD, bike runs flawlessly looks brand-new. Only drawback was the person who pawned it didn't leave the key for the removable lithium battery pack so I'll have to go to a locksmith to see what they can do about it. Bike will go about 18-20 MPH or use "pedal-assist" mode where you pedal assisted by the electric motor and that feature has 5 levels of adjustment. Bike retails for $1,600.

Looks like a solid purchase for the price/situation.

Basic locksmithing isn't that hard, I'd read up before I called in a pro. You can likely pick it yourself and exchange the cylinder once you are on the inside. Or hell, drill it out if it's not hugging the battery (make 100% sure on that point with li-on).
 
That's a great deal and a nice commute you have there. You left out the money you'd be saving on insurance for the scooter too.

Get a new paint job for it. 😀 Though seriously I'd maybe check with local police just make sure there are no reports of stolen bikes. Sucks though since if it's stolen you're out of the money you paid for it. Yeah, just get the paint job. 😛

That would be the PAWN SHOP'S problem, not mine. The item was lent money on and that person did not keep the loan current so I happened to call the day it went to the sales floor.

Yea, thing is it's really bad for my car going 2.2 miles each way, you never get it hot enough to cook off moisture in the crankcase or exhaust system. Lot's of times I'll sit in my driveway running it @2K RPM for 10 minutes or so just to help out the situation.

damn those are steep fees for a scooter what city are you in?. I have a Genuine roughrider and my Colorado low power sticker is $5.85 good for 3 years and there is no mandatory class. Insurance with state farm is 15 bucks for the year.

Once again it is the PAWN SHOP that assumes the risk when they buy/loan on an item, bike has a nice paint job on it, looks exactly like the pic, it would be a shame to wreck it with shakers. Keep in mind that to do a pawn transaction in FL you MUST submit your fingerprint along with your state-issued ID.

It is their problem, but you're still supporting a market for stolen goods. I mean really, $270 for a nearly brand new product that is $1600 new? That said, nice purchase. Thinking of getting one myself now that the biking portion of my commute is going from 1.0 mi flat to 1.4 mi with a 135 ft hill.
 
I'm pretty bothered by the idea of needing some sort of assistance to ride a bike 2.2 miles.

If the scooter is at or below 49cc no motorcycle endorsement is needed. Yea, I was shocked in October when I had to re-new my tags and was told that price. That's a one-time deal though, it's like $10 every year thereafter.

I'm not "in need" really but standing up 8-10hrs/day in a cold environment cutting meat takes a lot out of a 58yr old guy. I will also use it without any assist at times to help conserve battery life, Li-po battery-packs are not cheap.

Is it possible? Sure. Is it enough to accuse him of supporting a market for stolen goods? No. Get off your penny-farthing.

That's laughable, really. Pawn shops take precautions to avoid stolen merchandise because if the police or the person who got robbed finds their property at the pawn shop they have to turn it over to the person without any reimbursement. People pawn their personal stuff as a means for quick cash between paychecks or jobs, specially in FL where people come and go so quickly. Most stolen stuff winds up on Craigslist in a different city from where it was stolen.
 
is the ebike is not enough , perfect time to get an old school Triumph or Honda . I saw a 305 dream at a garage sale in near new condition . Long story , it was sold and being rolled away.Guy paid 200 for it .

lol, no they don't. It is the cost of doing business when half your inventory or more is stolen goods.
