Wow, nice find! This is the first 5970 I've ever seen at or below MSRP. Whoever is waiting for GTX480 for $499 MSRP and doesn't jump on this deal is without a doubt an NV biased zealot!

Or a focus group member. Need to remember that those guys are neither biased or zealots! ;)

**UPDATE**

The place I ordered the Diamond 5970 reported that they were sold out, so that has been cancelled.

I've now ordered a SAPPHIRE HD 5970 OC edition - $758 CAD with shipping and taxes...(yeah still better than two 5870s)

Also, I've bought the i7 920/6 gb ddr3 1600 8-8-8-24 memory - $360 CAD with shipping

Items remaining:

Heatsink: Scythe Mugen 2 REV.B. HeatPipes CPU Heatsink LGA1366 1156 775 AM3 AM2+ AM2 754 939 940 120MM Fan $36.97

Mobo: Deciding...

Decided!

Mobo: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R ATX LGA1366 X58 DDR3 4PCI-E SATA3 USB3.0 Sound GLAN CrossFireX SLI Motherboard (GA-X58A-UD3R) $209.00

Total:

360+(209+36.97+12% tax) = 360+275.49=635.49CAD for i7920/6gb ddr3 1600 8-8-8-24/Gigabyte board with usb 3.0/tri cross/sli 16x 16x 8x 8x/sata 3 support/scythe mugen 2 heatsink REVB
Sapphire HD5970 = $758 CAD

Total i7 setup with 5970 = 635.49+758 =$1393

Not too bad I think...

Estimated selling cost of my E8400/heatsink/board/ram = $500
Selling 5870 = $400 minimum
If Selling 5850=$300 minimum
Total estimated selling value: 500+400=$900 (if selling 5870+e8400setup)

Offset/Difference: 1393-900=$493

I know you're talking CAD, but 5850's fetch about $260-$270 USD used. Most 5870's fetch $350-$375 USD used. Trust me... I've been watching the forums for the last 3 weeks waiting on a deal... ended up paying $320 USD for my 5870.

Craigslist ftw...(plus my 5870/5850 are about 4 weeks old with little to moderate usage, and come with a transferable receipt/warranty that does not require registration (Asus rocks like that)....pretty much like newI'd say)

Very good mobo choice. If I had to narrow to three, that'd be a contender. Enjoy..

Ya those are pretty ambitious sales estimates for used parts. I sold a Q6600 /w Gigabyte P35 board and OCZ Platinums DDR2-800 CL4-4-4 for $250 CDN 8 months ago and that setup would walk all over an E8400 system today.

I guess every minute a sucker is born! (or maybe I was a generous guy!)

Also, not sure about BC prices, but after 1 min of google, 5870s are selling for $320 CDN: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-...Xfx-saphire-5870s-For-sale-W0QQAdIdZ193319300

and 5850s for $260: http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-computer-accessories-HD-5850-W0QQAdIdZ193104842

Well stuff in BC is expensive, I'm sure I'll sell the stuff for the estimates, moreover, there's still always ebay...Let alone there's a demand and supply issue, especially with the Asus brands here in Canada...they overclock better as they don't need a bios flash..but you can barely find them around

UPDATE for those interested: My Asus 5970 is coming in FedEx mail tomorrow 5 pm PSTish, will post pics and more soon. I'm getting pretty excited :D

Still waiting for my i7 920 and ram to arrive (hopefully tomorrow or on Monday (Friday is a holiday)..once that arrives I'll go ahead and pick the mobo and heatsink up for my build..

I'm hoping to atleast get started on a benchmark of pcie 1.0 vs 2.0 on the 5970, also run a 5970+5870 setup on my crappy mobo to see any difference...more to come.

The cards don't excite me. Let's talk about your Irish Spring Speed Stick...

Ha... enjoy, quite the setup you'll have.

I don't get it. You do realize two of these Would be faster and $150 cheaper right?

Maybe let the OP enjoy his Badass 3200 shader ASUS Reference Design Voltage tweak 2GB 5970 videocard (which he found a good deal on) and buy those 5850PCS cards for your rig.

OP has the fastest VGA there is (aside from Ares, Limited Ed. BE, and 4GB Sapphire), and the perfect brand too. Looking forward to your results, and nice pictures man! Wish I had that card.
