Got a 2009 Yaris 3 door liftback, grey. They lopped the sticker price to $12,000, tacked $500 onto my down payment, gave me a free extended warranty, 0 percent interest and free upgrade to 15 inch aluminum wheels. And then there's the tax credit I get next year for a new car purchase. :) I pick it up on Saturday. Can't wait!

I wanted cheap and economical and reliable. I think I made out well.

Let me know how you like it. My gf might be looking for a new car and she likes the look of them. Which model did you get? How long was the financing term?

Congrats. I bought a four door hatchback a couple of months ago. The instrument panel in the center is something you'll get used to. The driver side glovebox cover is a great place to mount a GPS unit, scangauge, or some gauge pods.

Here are some pics. of what I've done in mine:

It's a fun car to drive and I've been getting great gas mileage on mine. No love for it here though on ATOT where everyone else owns a Jaguar, BMW, or Audi.

Oh yeah, checkout YarisWorld as well. It's a forum with lots of Yaris stuff.

I still dont understand why they would ever put the speedo in the middle of the console.

Some people say that it takes less time for the eyes to adjust when looking at the road ahead and the instrument cluster in the center or it could be that they want to standardize parts for left and right hand drive vehicles or it could be other things.

Still, it's not a big deal and everyone that's driven my car has adjusted to it very quickly. The driver side glovebox that's there now is nice to have as well.

Some say it allows for slightly more commonality between RHD and LHD cars. In a model like this where they want to sell in as many markets and pare the price down as much as they can, it may be worth it to go with a funky design that saves a few dollars per unit.

I personally think it's horrible, and would be much more inclined to buy the car if the instruments were in the traditional place.

Edit: If it was really as great an idea as some would claim I think we would see a lot more cars with this configuration. Sure there will be backlash from traditionalists but that very few cars are like this is telling.

Like I mentioned above, it's not a big deal. When I got home with the car the day I bought it, my parents, brother and sister all drove it around the block a couple of times and none brought up the center mounted instrument panel. They still take it every now and then when they need to do some errand around town and no one has ever complained about it. One thing they do mention is the great fuel economy.

Speedometer on the center. That's just accident waiting to happen.

I'm guessing that we don't see more cars with center-mounted displays because of people like this:

What are you getting for fuel economy? Do you have the auto or stick?

THIS

Those middle-instrument panels are obscenely brutal. Who the hell is still approving those?

Anyway, sounds like a decent enough deal.

The instrument panel in the center is something you'll get used to.
And people in prison get used to Bubba stiffing them every night during their sleep, it doesn't mean they should.

Anyway I like what was done above. With instrument cluster in center GPS can be in a nice spot to see.

Yeah, GF HAD that car ;).

It's OK...gutless, but she did not mind it. I personally hated the instrument cluster in the center, the cheapo seats (after 5k miles they were looking a little beat up already).

but hey, it had a lot of little storage places, haha.

I dont get it. Pay you to take a Yaris?? You got it for 12k.. I got 3 different Fusions around here that I can take *right now* for 12k. And could easily talk them into 10k OTD with all fees and taxes.

Is it a cool car? Yeah. But in today's car world its hardly a great deal. I can't think of a Toyota or Honda that is right now.

Americus and Albany Georgia :p Moreso Americus, because they're *really* itching to get rid of their cars on the tiny lots here.
