bought a XP1500+, only showing up at 1GIG

just bought this xp 1500+ cpu from someone from for sale/trade forums for $60 shipped, its OEM factory unlocked (dunno what that means) anyway, my motherboard is Biostar M7VKD and it supports xp proccessors, it shows up on xp 996 mhz athlon and i d/l a cpu clock thingy and it shows same speed, whaz prob?

Switch the front side bus to 133MHz rather than 100MHz like its at now.

Okey, if the cpu is 'unlocked' then that means you should be able to set the fsb frequency (100mhz, 133mhz, or more) as well as the clock multiplier (3x, 4x, 4.5x, whatever) -- this is all typically done either by setting dip switches on your motherboard or by easily setting the values in bios. What you need to do is find out which method is required for your mother board (I'm not familiar with its capacities). If the cpu is truly unlocked, then bios may have set it automatically to its 'default' speed which may be it's lowest speed.

Thus you need to manually set the processor speed with the switches or through bios. Be very careful to check the vcore voltage frequencies that are appropriate for the processor. Your mobo manual would be a useful start for this process. You might also check the Biostar forum at amdmb.com. Hope all of this helps!

UPDATE : i set the FSB to 137, speed is at 1100 mhz now, i cant find the clock multiplier and there is no more options to get the FSB more than 137..

if you are able to change the clock, 11(clock) times 133(fsb) = 1463 MHz, hope this helps.... 😉

i cant find the clock multiplier in the BIOS and i flashed the BIOS which didnt help.. anyway, i downloaded SpeedFan 4.05 which can change my FSB higher than 137, only problem is i dont know what setting i should enter, my choices are

im not sure on that mobo but there may be a jumper to change clock settings, also i dont think you should try to adjust this to its true running speed of 1.33 GHz by using the fsb. You need to find a way to set your clock to 10 (10 x 133 = 1.33 GHz). If the mobo isnt able to be changed its either reporting wrong due to being broken or the processor isnt what you think it is. good luck.🙂

Try CPUFSB too.

How to find the clock generator: Look on the motherboard, somewhere around the chipset or CPU, for a little silver component - an oscillator - and look for a rectangular chip near it. That should be the clock generator. (sorry, can't be more specific without pics; the link above might help)

Check the manual for instructions on how the multiplier can be changed manually, assuming the board supports that.

i tried CPUFSB, i found out that my PLL is a Cypress/ILI W230, but i cant get it more than 1.1 gig with CPUFSB, anyway, i checked the manual, it tells me to change the multiplier through the BIOS but i only have 2 options instead of 3 like in the manual's BIOS... and CPUFSB shows that my multiplier is at 10.0 right now but no options to change it..i guess i need another mobo?
