holy shat this is a great piece of equipment, it basically simulates hitting a speed bag but is weighted. I got the 8# model, they come in 4 & 12 also. When I think 8# I have visions of the pink and purple rubber coated hand weights for females you see in the yoga section of a store. Needless to say 8 here doesn't = easy. Outside of the rope machine at my old gym I don't think anything has fatigued my arms like this. And that machine was ginormous and probably costs $5k+. Basically this is small hand held thing with 2 360 rotating handles. It's all steel except for the rubber around the handles. It's built solid as hell and at least feels like it should last forever.

I had seen this awhile ago but the commercial made it seem a bit gimmicky. I recently found it on a deal of the day site. After doing some more research I decided to get it. I haven't been working out for awhile now, so when I got it I expected it to be hard, but I really had no idea. 1st time I used it I held it high and wanted to see how long I could spin it at my fastest, 10 seconds in I could feel the burn starting, 15 seconds in it was like WTF, I couldn't keep up the speed so I slowed down a bit and made it about 5 more seconds before I had to stop.

Arms and shoulders were burning and my heart rate felt elevated. I didn't have my HRM on, but I could feel it beating faster. I took a rest and decided to try some of the other exercises. This is a fricking nice unit, by the end of the night I managed to do 100 rotations without stopping. When I was done, my entire upper body was on fire. My arms were destroyed and my shoulders were already sore. My heart was racing now, the cardio I got from it was nuts. Now I'm out of shape yeah, but this thing really has impact.

I've spent a few days with it now, and it's just good. You pick it up and start using it with no prep, there are a bunch of different things you can do with it. I did 50 gunslingers and my wrist & forearm were toast. I like that I can just throw it in my bag and take it with me. I don't really see any way I could get the type of workout I get from this with what I already have in my ghetto home gym. It really does give me a unique workout. It's pretty brutal so I can't even imagine how much harder the 12# model is on you. Here's a video showing Donald Cerrone & Lenard Garcia having a spin off with it.

Seems nasty.

It's less cardio and more lactic threshold training.

Could be, but I know it gets my heart racing like crazy which is categorize under cardio. Weather or not that's the case I don't know lol.

I did a bunch more on it today, full speed for 30 seconds is BRUTAL. I definitely feel the lactic acid build up so maybe you're on to something with what you mentioned.

Different types of physical exertion can get your heart racing. A 100 meter sprint isn't considered cardio by most, but your heart's going full bore to help you recover.

Regardless of what you call it, some activity is better than none.

What you are doing is more anaerobic training.

Getting your heart racing is not an indication that you are doing cardio. Your heart is racing to remove the lactic acid away from your muscles. Cardio in the typical sense is about using oxygen to shift nutrients around the body for energy.

You are primarily using ATP as your energy source.

The exercise generally has to be longer than 60seconds for to be classified as cardio. This is about the time it takes for you to breath and for the oxygen to be transferred to where it is required.

100m sprint isn't cardio as it's less than 60seconds and you won't be using oxygen as the energy source.

Didn't realize that cardio was a term that people misunderstood so much.

Koing has it right.

I was agreeing with Koing. My misunderstanding now is what makes 60s a magical number?

To me cardio is an exercise designed to stimulate shear stress on vessel walls, the release of nitric oxide, and intended to improve long term health. I contrast it with resistive exercises designed to increase muscle mass and strength.

60s seemed to be the quoted figure I was always given when I was studying Physical Education in school.

Maybe it's due to the time it takes for when you breath that breath and for that oxygen to get to where it is required by the body?

I see the error in my thinking, I was associating cardio with it because it makes my heart race and after about 10 20 second sets with 30 seconds rest in between I'm sweating more than anything I did at the gym. That could be me being out of shape lol. But whatever the case this thing gives a good ass workout. I managed to do 60 straight seconds and I thought I was going to die. My arms were completely shot, and my shoulders felt like I'd been stung by a dozen wasps, and I couldn't catch my breath.

This thing is still fun to use too, it's a pretty cool invention.

Maybe someone can clue me in here, the poster and DVD that come with this show exercises to do, but don't say anything about frequency. I've been using this about 5 times a week and am already able to use it longer and more often. But I'm not really sure how often I should use this. Right now I just sort of pick it up throughout the day and do a routine I set up, 20 seconds as fast as I can, 30 seconds rest x5. I'm wondering how many times a day I should be doing this to actually get some good results.

I'm not waking up sore so I'm probably needing to do it more. I work 8 hours a day with no official breaks but I have down time when no customers are in the store.
