Was over at compusa yesterday and they had the Audiovox Maestro on sale for $287. I couldn't resist 🙂

I'm specifically looking for a document reader of sorts that will read multiple file formats - Adobe PDF files, word docs, text docs, ect. Also, a personal finance program of sorts would be nice as well.

Any suggestions or links to free ppc software would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Microsoft Word is already on the device. Word reads .doc and .txt files.
You can get Adobe Acrobat reader for PocketPC's here

You can get lots of freeware here:
http://pocketpcsoft.net/php/freeware.php

Basic shareware (Finance/Sports/Management/PIM/Database/Etc.) can be found from the home page of that above site
http://pocketpcsoft.net/

Check out the Brighthand forums for more help. Also check out PocketPC Thoughts for info on the latest software/hardware releases.

Thanks Brandon. Knew you could help me out 🙂

Also, Is PPC02 backwards compatible with previous versions of WindowsCE?

Another question - will certain applications ONLY work on specific machines - IE will something that is written for an IPAQ work on my rebadged toshiba?

You should have gotten a Palm. Just kidding... I couldn't resist. 🙂 PDABuzz is a great site for discussion and reviews.

I used to own an IPAQ and never had any problem with software incompatablities from one PDA to another. Just make sure it's made for Win CE 3.x

As long as the application is available for ARM, you're set. Your IPAQ is ARM, so long as your other device is ARM, the application will work on either platform. There are usually versions for ARM, MIPS, SH3, and the x86 emulator.
