Bought a package of Herring

I picked up some Smoked Digby Herring last night, I'm curious as to how I should go about eating it?

I assume I can just eat it out of the package since it's smoked, but are there any consumption suggestions you can give me? Sandwhich? Mayo? Fry it?

cold smoked stuff is not cooked, just preserved. so, maybe you can't just eat it out of the package

We used to have it at my house (in residence now) and I remember I loved it. I just can't remember how we prepared it.

if it's smoked you probably don't need to dip it in anything. You want the natural flavor.

Well, you don't cook smoked salmon so I wouldn't think you would herring. Try it on a cracker with some decent cheese.

You don't need to cook any type of herring that you buy in a jar. If you like that stuff, you've got to be at least half-way to insane.

Step 2: Place herring in mouth
Step 3: Close mouth
Step 4: Crew

Continue until all the herring is gone.

This was bought in a package, like you buy meat in. So far I'm eating it on Salted Tops with Old aged Cheddar and it's so delicious.... mmmmmmmmm

Lutefisk is horrible. It is like eating flem.

I prefer pickled herring in a mustard or cream sauce.
