5spd is better anyways

And why is 5-speed better?

Personally I'd take a 6-speed over a 5-speed. The 6th gear allows for lower RPMs at the freeway speed, thus better fuel economy.

On the other hand if the 6-speed transmission is weaker, then obviously I'd stick with a stronger unit.

The STI 6 speed is far stronger and has a much cleaner action, the 5 speed is notoriously sloppy and can be fragile under certain abusive conditions when above stock levels of power are applied.

For these cars specifically though, the 6 speed in the STI doesn't net any additional MPG or lower revs, the ratios are just shorter than the 5 speed unit in the vanilla WRX.

From what I've heard, the 5-speed has the ratios such that the 0-60 time is slightly better on the WRX than the STi. However, in all other respects, the 6-speed is superior.

I really like the look of the tachometers and entire front of the dash in the car. It puts out a great glow at night that is so relaxing. :)

I like the 5 speed better than 6. The 6 speed are geared too short and you're constantly shifting.

what? u sold the M3? man you go thru cars like candy

No kidding! Though I should keep this one for a while as it seems to have the whole package: Cheaper (by far!), sporty, and practical (4wd hatchback).

I also just bought a STI Special Ed.. Pics to come in a few days

What did you end up paying? Are Subaru dealers flexible in this market?

I offered the STI as an option but my wife isn't too keen on it , yet. I think she would still prefer a G37 S. I don't see too many other options for us at around $35K.

Man .... I am jealous ...

2008 NA forester here ... my daily driver, good gas milage, decent size trunk, no issues towing my snowmobiles, perfect for going camping for a weekend, etc ...

But ... WRX or STI would be so much more fun!!!! ugh!!!!

Nope, it's gone.

so which do you like better? no doubt the M3 kicks the subie's ass when it comes to luxury, but for sheer driving pleasure, can the STI match the M3? which sounds better? I assume a turboed flat four cant match a high revving V8 in either aspects

I'm still in the break-in period for the engine, so I haven't taken it over 4k rpm yet. While the the M3 is definitely more equipped, I found that most of what was lacking to me came back when I put in the new stereo/nav/ipod/bluetooth stuff.

So far I'd say both cars are a blast to drive.
