Well, I did buy it for the looks...I'm soo shallow...But is this a decent unit? I was looking at some alpines around the same price range but they weren't flashy :)

Update!

I returned the unit and got the Alpine CDA-7893. Listened to it already, sound pretty neato and looks bad ass in the dark.

"flashy" is good, that way you keep your eyes off the road :)

Francodman, do you have a link to this product, I can't find it anywhere on Sony's website

edit: Can't type

True, but from that link, it's looks pretty cool w/ some pretty nice features :)

Francodman, what did it cost you w/o the installation charge?

It was about 260 w/o installation @ Circuit City...but they threw in installation for free. Plus 2 free speakers :) But the speakers are el-cheap 20 bucks a pop.

Well, it comes with two remotes. The knob can be placed either in the center console, or in my case, the center arm rest of my car. It had a nice feel, but doesn't have all the buttons the other remote has.

You should have went with the alpine. I'd return that unit and pick up the alpine. Every person new to car audio makes this mistake of going for looks rather than quality. I made that mistake a few times - I bought a sony and a kenwood and both ended up sounding like a POS after listening to my current headunit. I am still happy with my clarion drx9675z that I bought a couple years ago.

Sony's X-Plode line is alright, its a mid-grade product comparable to Jensen. They don't have the following among mobile audio enthusiasts as names like Eclipse, Pioneer, Alpine, and Kenwood, but Sony isn't low-end, either.

I bought the predecessor to that unit, the CA850X. There are no buttons on the head unit itself, which kind of sucks. Not such an easy thing to find a good mount spot for the giant knob. Plus there are alot of questions about the reliability of sony xplod hus. I later returned the unit.

check out forums.sounddomain.com

do a search on "sony" in the headunit section to get a feel for what others go through.

I would have gone with a deck that decodes MP3s. At least that's what I'm getting on my next deck. ;)

But it does look nice, and I'm sure it'll sound great!
