Am unstabe currently at 380fsb, tried 1.7V as well. My pc dealer removed the chip and we compared it with the pics on how to ID fakes from AMD forums, its tampered. Will have pics tomm.
EDIT : My old chip was 266fsb, XP2000. Not 333.

Its too late, he rated him positive as well, this was bought in november. I just installed it on monday, dont ask why.!

If it was with a credit card, it's not too late. 90 days from the statement to disupute. Counterfeit product is definate fraud, so slam dunk on getting the charges reversed.

if you are positive that it was faked, then i would contact ebay immediately. i would not write to the guy who sold it and wait around for an explaination(who knows how long that would take). i'd contact ebay first and tell them in as much detail as possible to prove your case to them.

Ebay and AMD and squaretrade have been notified, hes offered to replace it, says hes not had any problems with the hundreds others hes sold, problem is, i send it to the USA, and he returns another fake, whats the point of it all? And currently its weirdly stable since the last 20 minutes, at 2.1ghz..performing abt as much as a XP2800 acc to sisoft, so i dont know if its all worth takin the trouble.. im gonna prime95 it all night tonight, which of the 3 tests should i run? Small FFT?

ebay is  on alot of stuff....

ex:if someone is selling a video card or such that they bought for 200, and they are selling it without it being opened, what reason do they not have to jack up the prices????

and alot of people buy like 20 of whatever and sell them moreexpensive. your better off buying it retail. Plus buying retail you can get like custumer support and whatnot.

Im running prime95 tonight, 1.70V, 11x190=2090mhz....seems stable in doom3 and 3dmark05. Will decide whether to ship back [expensive, unsure whether ill get an original again!] tomm. morning when i check the results.
AWhackWhiteBoy: 195 fsb didnt work, 190 seems stable at 1.70V...how did you figure this? Maybe your friends had fakes too, rather hardware o/c'd 2500s, didnt realise it and thought its a mobo issue? Check their cpus.

the FAKE CPU thing was posted on TECHREPORT.COM they said a fair few thousand AMD CPU's had been stolen and remarked for sale (obviously being stolen out the garbage at AMD and then remarked) so u could of got one of those

You have a week 12 of the year 2004. That is beyond the period where they were factory unlocked. If you truely are playing around with multipliers, something is really fishy.

i would not pay for the return shipping. i would get the seller to do that. it was his fault/mistake. you should not have to pay for it.

its NOT a CPU problem, its a motherboard flaw. It hates "offbrand" memory(I was using Geil, neither Geil or Transcend is bad, its just Asus sucks) when running in dual channel mode. I think you have compounding issues right now, a bum CPU AND a crappy motherboard. You CPU shouldn't need that much voltage for so little MHZ.

Eitherway I had this motherboard, it did similar crap with the ram, so I bought a DFI, slapped in the same ram and CPU and was able to run 500mhz stable, yet the asus couldn't even handle 400.

You've got a lot of variables on your mind right now.

edit: put your cpu back at stock mutli and voltage, and try running 185.

Thread's too long for me to read the whole thing, but did you try running single-channel at all? Or borrowing memory and/or using the dividers to raise CPU speed while not taxing the rest of the system? I'd check out A LOT of stuff before assuming that I have a fake CPU.

Uh, there is about 15 times too much thermal compound on that chip, no wonder the thing is fecking up. You got that chit everywhere.

N00B ALERT!

THermal paste was applied by my so-called 'engineer' who assembled my previous system. He said that it wasnt a problem. And i just saw that a mod at AMD forums posted that this is tampered-with for sure.

have you tried running the RAM single channel?? Stop screaming that it is fake and actually follow the advice of the other people on the forum... the 'engineer' you took to is wrong about the thermal paste... you put a little bit on the die of the cpu and then using a credit card spread it down to an uber thin layer just on the die.... Looking at the pictures it doesn't appear to be fake. the AMD code sticker appears to be okay, but a close up of that would be necessary. Also get some isopropyl alcohol on that thing and clean it up... then get close up of the L12 and the L11 bridges they should be tampered with if it were a fake.... so get those new pics and then we'll talk....

First of all, I appreciate all of your help. Im getting conflicting replies all over the net.
Okay, My ram IS single channel ! Asus A7N8X-X. Notice the -X. Its a single channel board.
Here are some closeups, im sorry if i seem like im jumping the gun here.

Actually you don't need to do that. You can just make a small blob, and when you put on the heatsink, it'll flatten itself out.

Memories2002, you suck at taking pics... turn your camera to macro mode and turn off the flash. Wait for the autofocus to engage longer.
