Bought a 5D classic...feeling a bit of buyer's remorse

I'm using a 60D now with no problems. I'm interested in landscape/portrait photography and really wanted to try FF along with a trio of inexpensive primes (Samyang 14/Canon 35 f/2/Canon 85 f/1.8). I bought the whole package this week but now I'm feeling reluctant to let my 60D go (can't afford to keep both).

Namely, the 5D doesn't have:
-Video
-Live view
-Wireless eTTL or a built-in flash
-Auto ISO
-Sensor dust shake

I thought the extra IQ and shallower DOF would make up for it but now I'm not so sure. I'm starting to think I should wait a couple years until the 5D Mark II is within my budget.

Which would you keep? BTW, if you know anyone who's interested in a used but good condition 5D classic with 2 batteries, EE-A and EE-S focusing screens for $875, let me know 🙂

I'm stuck on a XSi so I'd keep... both? 😛

If video is important/useful at all than the original 5d was not going to be a good choice. I don't use Live View that much (though I think the 60d Has the articulating screen? I might use it more if I had that) so that's not too important to me. Has the extra IQ/DoF been what you thought it would be, it's just not enough weighed against the disadvantages or something else?

If you can sell it for what you paid, no harm doing so. Maybe borrow/rent the next camera you want to buy before purchasing it? 😛

I'd probably let the 5D go as well. DOF you can't do anything about, but how much better is the IQ really? Sensor quality came a long way between the 5D and the 60D.

The extra functional features on the 60D are certainly nice as well.

I'd keep the body that is easier/fun to shoot with.

The 5D has always tempted me because of the price, but I doubt I could get by with it as my only body as the newer features u have listed like Auto ISO and Wireless flash have been such a blessing.

Maybe you should throw on a poll for people to vote?

I would also keep the 60D. Like others have said I really dont think the iq in the 5d is soooo much better than the 60d to give up what the 60d can offer.

I think in terms over overall IQ the 5D will have the edge on the 60D (I have a 7D) , not in terms of resolution but colour accuracy, dynamic range etc. It'll also make more use of lenses so provide a sharper image but then not as detailed...

And it will be a little bit cleaner than the 60D at high ISO.

But it is an OLD design, small LCD, no MA af adjustment etc etc. Lots which keep me from buying one myself.

For my uses I enjoy the FF. I doubt I'll ever go back to crop.

This.

I bought a 5D Mark I last year and almost never touch my APS-C cameras anymore. In my opinions, the DOF and IQ of the 5D are superior to any of Canon's current APS-C cameras.

Also, I don't shoot video and don't have any need for auto ISO.

Plus, I like to shoot wide sometimes and find that I like a 17-40mm on a 5D a lot better than any APS-C only lens.

The only time I miss the 7D (With a friend) is when I want to shoot 720 @ 60p

I would get rid of the old 5D since the 60D had more features you find useful. I'd hate to put up with no autoISO either, but then again I don't stand around a tripod for hours shooting 100 pics of the same scene.

I think you made a good choice. I replaced a 20D with the 5D a few years ago and never looked back. I now have a 5D MKII - awesome in low light where I do 75% of my work.

Well, after some deliberation, I decided to go with the 5D and sell the 60D and APS-C lenses. Thanks for the responses. It's hard to see the 60D go but I think the 5D would be a better fit for what I'm interested in.

Here's some stuff I'm selling, BTW 🙂

The 5D is a very capable camera. My friend Dawn has, just this year, upgraded from her 5D to the Mk II. It really had more to do with magazine publishing issues than the shots. For example, her Fusion Award winning video of Rhema Marvanne was shot on the 7D, with all the stills shot on the 5D.

Post some pics after you've spent some time with the 5D. We're all curious how the decision turns out.

I just upgraded from a 5D this year as well. I wouldn't have done it, but Canon decided to melt my old one and upgrade me for free!

Send it in to Canon for some basic cleaning.

Who knows? Maybe their service department will burn down.
