Bottom Line: Is ENERMAX "Whisper" actually quiet?

Does anyone own an Enermax Whisper Power Supply (such as their 365-watt AMD-certified PSU)?
Is it actually quieter than a regular power supply?

That second fan.. when it's working, does it make the PSU sound louder than other PSUs?

Can I disable that second fan without making my system run hotter?

You bet it is. I have a 365 whisper and all I can hear is the hush of the HS fan.
The power supply is totally quiet

The enermax are some top quality power supplies like you know. I have the 451, and I cant even hear it. It's obviously going to make the system hotter if you disable the second fan.

--- Awesome.
Thank you all for your input, I'm going to get one tomorrow. I will gather more information about how much wattage I need - from another thread I have here :)

I'd error on the side of having too much power if I were you. It's always cheaper in the long run to go with more power now.

Its actually a 350W, 365 is the model name. Yes its very quiet, even with the two fans at full load, I dont think its louder than a single fan PSU. But no, you cannot turn off the second fan.

anyone compared the whisper to a 250W powerman/sparkle?

Mine doesn't let me sleep comfortably at night with it on, so I'm looking for as close to dead quiet as possible.

Sure you can turn off the second fan. All you'd have to do is open up the PSU's box and disconnect the power connector for the second fan :) (Note, this is probably the most stupid thing to do).

They even have the same connector as a lot of the video card fans do. Er, this is what I've noticed anyway.

When I first put my 365 in and booted up I was like "OMG, peace is mine again!"

And then the computer warmed up.

Enlight 7237 case...4 5.25/2 3.5 midtower. CPU HS/F is maybe and inch and a half under the PS. When everything is warmed up the PS is blowing air all over and easily overpowers the HS/F for noise. I hooked up the RPM monitoring wires once, but didn't like the clutter so I can't tell you how fast they're spinning.

It is cooler than my Enlight PS. But when all warmed up it's also louder. And I only have 800mhz of Tbird here at the moment. Also seems the PS itself produces more heat..others usually have a stamped piece of aluminum for heatsinks, nothing fancy, a single fan and everything stays moderately warm. Took the 365 out and opened it up to see if the thermoresistor was in the airflow or in a hotspot - Enermax has some nice, big, heatsinks in there. More than what anything else has. 2 fans moving air across them - and yet they were as warm or warmer than any PS I've encountered. Just an observation, not sure what it means if anything.

I have an Enermax 351 and 451, and they are great power supplies.. I dont buy anyting but Enermax as far as power is concerned.. About the noise... yes its very quiet.. actaully its to point where the bottom fan is absolutely worthless.. it doesnt blow any air.. but yes its quiet.. You may have to take off the bottom "fan"'s grill for it sit in your case.. I would've liked to see a fan with a lil more power but hey thats me... but yes its silent.. my .02cents

If I take that thermistor cable which controls the second fan and take it OUT of the case, or connect to something cold, will that shut up this fan?

Or, on the other hand, if I want it to blow forever, can I connect it to a hard drive?

.. It used to be so easy to build a PC.. now there's all those power supplies and different memory types ;)

I just picked up an enermax today, the Enermax EG365P-VE. Not the FC, since from everything I can find, it only offers more features, but no less noise than the non FC version.

How is it? Loud. Louder than my powerman which I thought was loud. How loud? I don't even have to try to hear it whirring away.

I've got a 1.2ghz tbird under the hood, and once it warms up (mpg2 encoding), those enermax fans go at it pretty hard.

But, to be fair, I was looking for something dead quiet. I need to sleep 6 feet away from my comp while it runs full load encoding svcds.

So, if you thought the enermax was going to be much quieter than a powerman, it isn't. I am impressed by it's construction though. Really nicely made, but my 250W powerman was way cheaper (came with an inwin case for $70 CAD) and quieter and runs my tbird fine at up to 1.33ghz.

So whats the story here? Are different submodels of Enermax power supplies quieter than the others? Should I get a FC version?

ARGH, what the hell, we have two people here with the same freaking model, one saying it's quiet and one saying it's loud. Man, you people are confusing me and I need a power supply soon  ;)

So what's the difference between the FC and non FC version? The FC has a temperature controlled fan?
