Both HDMI and Speaker Audio concurrently active?

Is it possible to have the same audio stream go out the HDMI audio path ad the standard speaker path from a Win 7 PC?

It seems in the audio settings its either one or the other.

I want my HDTV speakers to work for general use (through HDMI) and then have my powered speakers for listening to music (standard speaker 1/8" audio cable out).

Thanks.

I would like to know this too. I asked this question about a year ago and never got a real answer.

In xp yes, in windows 7 no.
MS decided consumers only needed 1 output enabled per application and so that is what the subsystem is designed to do. You can specify different outputs for applications but not 2 outputs for the same application simultaneously. Even though the hardware is fully capable of doing it.

Developers pleaded with MS in the windows 7 development stage not to do things this way , to give them some way to have better control over outputs in the applications, but it fell on deaf ears.

Proof it could be done is in an application called virtual audio cable. It has a trial version:

Well thats just swell. :/ Golf clap to the horde of MS clowns responsible for making a decision for us.

Thanks for the info though.

This was one of the first annoyances I encountered upon installing WIN 7.
I couldn't get both my headphone jack on the front of my PC, and the speaker jack on the rear to work at the same time.
By default I use my headphones, but on occasion, I turn on the power to the speakers if I want to move about.
I spent days search for a fix. This was for Realtek motherboard based sound, using Realtek drivers.
Eventually, I figured something out, because it works OK now. But I don't remember exactly what it was... :hmm:

I am interested if you can figure out what you managed to get working...
