both are "kickass" ram... but which one???

planning on getting new ram for the best possible overclock... and i've come down to these two...

OCZ DDR PC-3500 Platinum Enhanced Bandwidth Dual Channel (Specs HERE)

Mushkin PC3500 DUAL CHANNEL KIT 2X256MB DDR 433MHZ LEVEL II DIMM CL2 *WINBOND BH-5 CHIPS* (Specs HERE)

here's my current rig:

p4 2.8c D1 stepping... need to go past 236fsb
p4c800e-dlx
ocz 2x256 pc3200EL
zalman cnps7000a-cu
ati radeon 9800pro 414/365
2x seagate 80gig sata raid0
antec sonata
 
What VDIMM are you limited to with your mobo - 2.85? You might want to take that into consideration if you're trying to get past 236 fsb, as the OCZ may require higher than 2.85V and the BH-5 probably will. I picked up a gig of Geil PC4000 and it hits 250 fsb at 2.5-4-4-7 using 2.85V on my P4P800.

to tell you the truth....dotn think you'll notice a jump in performance considering you gotta shell out at least 150. If your going to to any upgrades to your ram id suggest geting 2 x 512 and you'll be set for awhile. But, id go with the mushkins, but then again im biased to them.
 
OCZ EB. The IC's used in the modules are currently in production, so if anything were to happen to your RAM and you needed to refer to your warranty, you will get replacement modules. With BH5, if your RAM died, you will get an inferior product in return. And plus, OCZ support is nothing but top notch.

I have the EB's myself, they are excellent sticks of RAM.
 
i'm leaning towards the ocz too... but it's wierd... everyone here says OCZ... and everyone at 3dgameman says mushkin... o well...
 
geil had a good deal on their pc3500 256mb sticks at newegg last time i checked
i would consider them as a third option if you wanna save a few bucks
in my experience all three of these memories will max out in roughly the same ballpark, 220-250 maybe
the mushkin will have the fastest timings tho, if you need that kinda thing

if you want the absolute best then i suggest getting some pc4200 with the hynix chips, but this might cost you a few more bucks

but the ocz EB memory at 2.5 runs like it was at 2. EB means Enhanced Bandwidth, and it is living up to it's claims. Plus it overclocks very well 😉
 
$300 dollars for 2 x 256 sticks???

i think that's ridiculous...

i got mine off of ebay for $150 for 2 x 256 kingston hyperX bh-5's...

go with the EB... i don't think 2 x 256's would cost that much....
 
Well, if you plan to give ram more than 2.85V, get the BH-5...
If not, the OCZ might give a better all-rounder.

But, the BH-5 chip is the best in the world to overclock, but only if planning to give him 3.1/3.2 VDIMM 🙂
At this voltage, there are some extreme dudes pulling out 300Mhz on 2-2-2-5 :Q
