I'm a lifelong NHL fan because I played organized hockey for 25 years. I can see where some folks don't follow MLB because of game lengths and others despise the NFL because of the gawd awful commercials each time you blink...

However, I can't find one damn reason to watch the NBA. *shrug*

Well, the NL is better without the DH 🙂
Astros moved to bring balance to the 2 leagues. Somebody had to move. Brewers did the AL to NL switch before and I'm still not "used to it". Though I do love the NL much more. There's no question the real WS was in the ALCS between Houston and Boston. 2 best teams by miles.
How did the shift go down? Were Astros displaced by the Washington Nationals ... or that Florida team? I wasn't paying attention to baseball at the time. Also I hadn't realized the Brewers had flipped. heheh
And you're right about the real WS.

Good article explaining the who/what/when/why of the move. It really makes sense, but I also understand the "pain" it causes Astros fans.

The Brewers switch in 1988 due to league expansion and evening out of the divisions.

See ya Wednesday!

You are talking about the NY Yankees. And deep pockets proved itself wrong in NY.

Didn’t you read the news? George died and took his wallet with him. The Yankees are frugal now...

Boston (the real evil empire) has the highest payroll around.

Who won last year? Astros?

Years like this I wish the Astros had stayed in the National League where they belong.

Yesh in the NL they didn’t do a whole lot of winning and they had those eye blinding orange rainbow uniforms.

I find this delightfully amusing. I am from Providence, but living in Atlanta. Many of my long-term coworkers refer to me as evil. I take pride in that.

A few years back John Henry called the Yankees the Evil Empire because we had the highest payroll and ‘tried’ to buy championships. It’s fitting to give the title back to you 😉

The Red Sox had the highest salary in baseball this year, the Yankees were 6th.

If the Yankees had not gotten Stanton they might have been 11th and won more.

Let me preface by saying that I despise baseball. It has become more boring than watching soccer and F1 and I'd rather remove my own spleen with a cocktail fork than watch an entire game. Back when I did care about baseball I was a Yankees fan and I liked the style of ball back in the days when they had the Jeter-Williams-Posada-Riviera-Pettite nucleus of homegrown talent. Right now I'm glad to see that the Yankees got their ass kicked and I'm doubly glad that Boston did it. They play baseball like I think it should be played and the Yankees are the poster boys for the absolute worst style of baseball ever played. Move the fences back and give a bonus for every run scored without a home run. Go back to barrages of singles and doubles, moving runners, playing smart, putting lots of balls in play so that defense and baserunning play a bigger role. I don't know how anyone can watch the Yankees.

K-K-walk-K

Walk-Walk and then rather than trying to move the runners, K-K-K

Benedict Arnold!

Not as boring as watching golf at least?

You know they got the Judge-Andujar-Torres-Gardner-Severino-Betances nucleus going on now?

Can't really blame them for getting Stanton, he was basically free. But I get your point, it's either HR or nothing and there's a ton of crazy fans that now want to add Harper and his 169 Ks to the lineup.

Ratings were down sharply this season for the World Series.
Over five games, the 2018 World Series averaged 14.3 million viewers. That is a drop off of 23% compared to the 2017 average of 18.7 million. In fairness, the 2017 World series–which also featured the Dodgers–ran all the way to Game 7 so the comparison is an imperfect one.

I guess them making the World Series (in 2017) was like the Cincinnati Bengals making the Super Bowl. I live too far north to be in their broadcast area, but I guess I should be proud of a Texas team that dominates.

Question for anyone who might know (and I'm too lazy to Google it)... why is it called the World Series if it's only American teams playing in America?

I imagine back in the day America was the only country taking baseball seriously enough to establish professional leagues. So best team in America was unequivocally best in the world, and deserving of a world title.
(but then I didn't google it)

You know they got the Judge-Andujar-Torres-Gardner-Severino-Betances nucleus going on now?

Judge .278 and 150+ K
Andujar .297 and 97 K
Torres .271 and 122K
Gardner .236 and 107 with no power at all and the worst OBP of his career
Where was Severino in the 2nd half? Is that a #1 starter that you would trust against Sale, Scherzer, Verlander, Klueber etc?
Betances had a worse WHIP than David Robertson and Chad Green.

Some nucleus.

#1 catcher hit under .200
#1 1st baseman hit under .200
Not a single player on the entire team with a .300 average and 150 plate appearances. Not one.

No I don’t consider Severino an ace, but he’s like 22/23 so still time to develop or figure out where the hell he disappeared to after the first half. First half he was Cy Young material.

Betances is just plain filthy, I haven’t check his numbers but he was the inverse of Severino. I’d still rather have these home grown guys over a hired gun.

Eh it’s a nucleus on the rise. Judge was injured, whiffs a lot which is okay as long as you don’t surround him with 5 other guys that can’t put the ball in play.

Gardner, well he’s an old man. Still love his hustle/give himself up play.

Sanchez is a lost cause. Bird no idea what happened. Never seen a full season out of the guy.

Must be the Boone effect.

I get what you’re saying, but even with those underwhelming performances it still was a 100 win team.
