Boston Acoustic BA4800s or Altec Lansing 621?

which speaker setup is better?

I own the BA4800s and thinking of purchasing the Altec Lansing 621 after listening to them at the LAN party. WOW :Q

any thoughts?

You are comparing apples and oranges here. The Altec 621 is a 2.1 system while the BA4800s are a 4.1 system. The MSRP on the 621s is $180 and $100-$120 on the BA4800s most likely. A better comparison would probably be the Altec 621s vs. the Klipsch 2.1s as they are at the same price point.

i agree with GTaudiophile. they are both pretty good. but the price range is the big difference. it's like all those people comparing the Klipsch ProMedia 4.1s with the Logitech z-560s. the price range people. it's all about the money.

Altec has been making good multimedia speakers for a while. They were the only brand around a few years ago, but have seemed to slip through the cracks with the popularity of Klipsch, Logitech, and Boston. Altec speakers have good sound and have always been priced well, but they don't offer anything that really stands out. Altec's name simply can't compare to the likes of Klipsch and Boston, and both of those companies satisy both ends of the extreme with Logitech in the middle. Altec is lost in all that, and I also think that they don't build stuff to the same quality level as Boston and Klipsch. They have a cheap, plastic feel to them, whereas my little BA4800 satellites have considerable heft.

Nothing beats listening to speakers before you buy, though. Ask friends if they have any of the speakers you want and demo them in a natural environment if you can. The store sucks for listening.
