Boston.. a transportation question

we're going to be in boston for a convention (at the convention center, summer street) and we're going to be sleeping in quincy. the MBTA website says that's a 1 hour trip, give or take 4 minutes depending on route chosen. my husband is thinking it must be faster to drive it and is prepared/tempted to rent a car. He has to be at the convention center at 7am one morning and 8am all the others so..

my question is.. how long does it take, on average, to drive from quincy to the convention center at 6-7am, during the week?

nobody has a guess? He's going to rent a car before the night is over, unless someone can convince him (via me) it takes longer to drive.. and honestly, I won't mind, it'll give me a little in the city mini-storage facility to drop off my shopping and pick up my change of clothes 🙂 but it still seems silly to me to go to a place with good public transportation and not USE it..

From that part to Quincy is about 25 minutes by car, so yes, it is faster....however, that part of 93 is always congested in both directions (even on weekends). In the end, it would probably be the same time when you factor in traffic....however, if he plans on arriving there at around 6:50, then teh only issue (traffic will not be as bad) would be where to park for cheap in that area. I would be more worried about leaving because rush hour does not stop on that part of the highway till 7 at night.
 
Sorry...I thought you were talking about a hotel when you said Quincy. 😛

Renting a car would probably give you more freedom, but traffic in Boston sucks. You can control what time you get there a lot easier if you rent a car. As Gibson486 said, rush hour is bad....I always compare Boston to Chicago....they're both three sided cities. (fourth side is water) :thumbsdown:
 
haha.. I've never tried to drive in chicago either. we did drive in boston once, but it was.. 1980..

he did decide he wanted a car, so I pricelined one, maybe I saved enough to cover the parking. 🙂

(eta.. no boston or chicago driving to speak of but we did live in DC burbs for a dozen years.. so we're not strangers to traffic. I still think the car is sorta silly but I will appreciate it's usefulness as a.. storage locker..)
