How many of you have had bosses who are just terrible? In the poll above, pick the closest match for your current boss or most recent boss.

I hired on with a company with the agreement that I could not work over on certain days because I was going to college at night.

Overtime kicked in, boss got pissed off when I reminded him of the agreement.

Couple of weeks goes by, tell boss I have a job interview and need to take off a couple of hours early, he fires me on the spot. Luckily I got the job I took off to interview for.

Another boss had anger issues, almost got into fistfights with various employees.

Another boss acted like a 25 cent raise was something to be proud of.

On his own time, he's a little bonkers and I wouldn't really want to 'hang out' with him. But there are definitely worse bosses.

My boss is a prescription pill addict. His behavior is often erratic. He says he tells us(the staff) things, but actually never did. As his next in line, I have had numerous complaints from the employees about him, either saying or doing inappropriate things. He often gets very irritable & starts screaming and swearing at people. I have gone to his boss with these complaints, as he is directly over him, & it seems nothing is done about it.
Other than my drug addict boss, my job is decent. They pay my insurance, I get 4 weeks off a year, decent annual bonus, I live 6 miles from work so it saves on gas.

Mine's very relaxed and reasonable. Maybe completely crazy by some standards, but nothing that affects work.

Feel lucky -

Last C-level boss was fantastic - not a micro manager and hired good people who would get shit done.

He left, got a new C-level boss - cool as shit. Work hard/Play Hard - Focused on the right issues and not micro-managing.

We have a team of about 50 reporting into him with 6 of us reporting directly to him.

x2

Although I will say it effects OTHER people at work (drives them insane with his randomness/stupidity)

Relaxed and reasonable is the important part....for me anyways.

My Manager is very stressed out all the time and working crazy hours. He tends to be pretty reasonable with his expectations, but, sometimes he expects miracles. He made a good name for himself as a developer (mostly working with web apps and Java) before he was promoted to management. He still has all his wit and technical ability, but, he also has good management ability. Overall, I have a ton of respect for him.

I've never really had a bad boss. My last one was a bit of a lunatic, with a superiority complex, but I give him a break because he had the chops to back it up. He truly was superior. The rest were reasonable as far as boss/employee relationships go.

I have several bosses, all of whom are pretty reasonable.

Partner 1 - very relaxed and easy going on his face . . . hard to tell what he is thinking.

Partner 2 - Easy going on the outside, but shrewd and calculating on the inside. Reads into everything . . . even if his intuition is wrong.

Partner 3 - Oldest of the 4 - great lawyer and very friendly. But can be an extreme micro manager.

Partner 4 - Hot head - Happy as all get out when things are good. But will scream and curse when things are not.

That said, I am almost fully autonomous at work, so I rarely if ever consult with my "bosses" except over a beer. At least not with respect to everyday actions.

I feel pretty lucky, as the partners in all the other firms I have worked for have been a combination of partner 2 and partner 4. Calculating with a ridiculous temper.

Yeah... you need poll options for lazy/apathetic bosses.

It's possible to have a boss that is TOO relaxed... the kind that never approves any of your paperwork doesn't get you the resources you need to do your job.

I have two bosses - Sr. Director and VP. They are both awesome and the reason I stay with the company even though we haven't had a raise in two years and no bonus this year.

Why would you tell them you were going for an interview? Were you trying to get fired?

I'm sleeping with my boss!

(I'm retired, so the wife is as close to a boss as it gets for me).
