So my boss comes up to me and says there's extra money in the department and we should come up with a 'wishlist' of hardware we might want. so i'm thinking dual-monitor setup with larger 17"+ LCDs, anyone got any other suggestions? the computers themselves are good enough

The 1905FP is the perfect work monitor. Good all around performance, but ghosts like crazy in fast moving games.

i envy your budget :p i need a second 19" LCD (i have one... it is kinda broken) and i need uh, a real computer. right now my workstation is a freakin poweredge 1400SC (an 800MHz old server they used). everyone here at work has a sound card and can listen to their music on their speakers, but i'm stuck with my server which has no bells and whistles. this thing doesn't even have PCI slots... it's all SCSI

Deffinitely get LCDs. Then get some spare systems that you can use for whatever, depending on what your department needs. Then I would look at some applications that could benefit whatever the hell you do.
