How come sport guys don't get charged and arrested for battery? IMO a lot a guys setting bad examples, more so in basketball, which has even lost them fans and revenue.
Fines? don't hurt when you're making 50 mil a year.

It's really not too complicated. An idiot Yankee fan tried to grab a ball in play. Yes, he's an idiot but that happens every night in every stadium in baseball pretty much. Players don't get hit by fans in the face every night. Large, fundamental difference.Originally posted by: aplefka
You know, these threads don't say much for Yankees fans and their attitudes man. I was just pointing out that nobody from Boston complained about that on opening night.
There are idiot Yankee fans and there are idiot Sox fans. And yes, there are idiot Pirates fans too. By no means do I think all Sox fans are idiots because of a few rotten apples. That would just be ridiculous. And nobody else in this thread went on to say that other teams have stupid fans too, so that's pretty much saying through implications that only Boston fans are idiots.
Agreed.Regardless, I think it was stupid of the fan and is stupid of any fan to get involved in a game. The last thing baseball needs is a huge player/fan brawl. Apparently there were a number of fights at the Giants @ Dodgers series.

maybe no one here saw it or thought it was worth commenting on. this isn't about yankees fans or red sox fans. like you say, it is stupid of any fan to do that stuff. your conclusion based on "implications" is silly.

Just goes to show that fans need to be isolated from the game, make the walls taller, whatever.... just do something to keep fans from getting in the way because it takes away from the sport in the end. It also gives punks like Sheffield a reason to fly off the handle, it's a lose-lose situation

Why are you taking cheap shots at Sheffield when ALL the blame lies on the idiot Boston fan?
Sheffield was known as a problem player, a bad personality in his early years. He has really worked hard cleaning up his act and is now one of the leaders in the Yankee clubhouse.
Before you say this crap, at least know what you're talking about.

after seeing the replay a few times on ESPN, Sheffield should definitely be suspended.

Woah woah, calm down little man. I said I'd get you a cookie tomorrow, you should be in bed, not trying to steal your fathers beer.

It's always so hard for me to say whether or not players should get suspended for x amount of time because I know in the same situation, I'd prolly go apeshit on a person who interferred with me doing my job (assuming my job was to play pro sports).
I never thought that Artest deserved a death penalty and if anything Sheffield should only get a 2-3 game suspension. Anything more and I'll keep working on my plans for Bud Selig and David Stern to be in an airplane crash together.

I'm not discussing if the guy tried to hit him or grab the ball, because I don't know. But cna't you see the difference between Sheffield and Artest? Someone threw beer on Artest and the Pistons jumped into the crowd and started pummeling people. Here, someone hit Sheffield in the face and he automatically reacted. Big difference.

Sheffield showed a lot of restraint by not hitting that moron back. If it was most other people, there would have been an even bigger incident.
