My friend just bought a new Bose headset even after I talked to him about how overpriced Bose is. Is Bose really worth the money to people? I mean I know there are better headsets or speaker systems in general that are not as expensive as Bose and have to be just as good or even better right?

For Bose, the only audio device they make that is considered decently good is their QC2 and QC3 noise cancelling headphones. The active noise cancellation works quite well, although not as good as the Sony MDR-NC500D. The sound quality of the bose is slightly better than that of the Sony MDR-NC500D.

That isn't to say that the sound quality is anywhere near equivalently priced non-active noise cancelling head cans.

For people that need excellent active noise cancellation and cannot stand IEMs, the Bose QC2 does the job at a reasonable price (compared to good IEMs).

Note: IEMs are passive isolation of noise.

The around ears are very comfortable and very portable for a fullsized headphone. They offer better than stock sound quality with a lot of a convenience which makes them popular. Bose also has brillant marketing and brand visibility which helps them out.

For the same money you could get better sounding headphones and possibly some that are just as portable/comfortable but will you get the name? No. Do people value the name? Sure. I personally found it strange to see people wearing the same Bose headphones as me all the time when I had them.

People liking Bose makes enough sense to me, but Skull Candy on the otherhand.... wtf...

like most audiophile equipment, it is worth the money to him as long as he doesn't do any comparison. after a certain price point, the difference are more like trade offs, so it is more about preference but not really better/worse. it's all in your head.

i was wondering that too. everyone on this forum says they are cap but i've never seen any proof. i've never owned nor listened to a bose system though so i can't compare.

Bose isn't BAD - in fact some of their stuff sounds pretty good.

But, it's nothing close to wroth the cost :) There's plenty of alternatives that will give you better sound for a lot less.

You want proof? My JVC HA-RX700 headphones cost me $35. They sound just as good as the Bose around-ear headphones that cost around $150, though the JVCs have a BIT less bass (though they're more comfortable).

Someone also had a website showing the REAL cost of Bose speakers...but I can't find it right now. I will try harder if you want.

They're not BAD, necessarily, just way overpriced.

It is undeniable, and it is basic physics. The price you pay for Bose's small footprint speakers and "bass module" means you have holes in the audio spectrum.

Add this to the fact that Bose refuses to publish any specifications, AND has strict rules on where their displays must be placed to avoid comparison listening with other systems.

Bose has an amazing marketing department. That's all you can say for them.

True, but wasn't OP about the headphones? Arguably, the headphones (QC2) are the only thing Bose makes that isn't embarrassingly terrible.

Ah yeah, their acoustimass system is notoriously dreadful for example as noted in one of the above links.
