The fun bit of having the digital audio processor in the speaker (as in these Behringer and Edirol monitors) is that the processor knows the speaker properties.

Remember this is "how do I get decent sound onto my computer desktop" not "how to wow the fine eared audiophile", so let's not overdo it :)

I think the link got fubared when I was editing other parts of the post - another reason to hate fusetalk!

Agreed on not delving into sources, the thread is on affordable 2.0 speakers :)

sorry, forgot to update the thread.

the 5 sets I had ordered came in about a week ago, all in good shape.
they definitely sound excellent, can give run for money to anything in the sub $100 range. lacking a subwoofer (actually aspect40 is the companion sub but it sux big time), the bass doesnt go down that deep. But midbass is more than adequate for casual listening and mids are way better than on some of the popular choices here in logitech or klipsch.

My coworker fully agrees with my assessment and thanks me for the deal ;)

This is some of the best info I've run across on Anandtech. Someone at the top mentioned a lot of quality speaker companies and unfortunately I don't think many of them make speakers to sit on a desk. I had a set of Boston computer speakers die recently. They were great for $100, complete with a decent sub, but haven't been made in years I found out. There's nothing on the market of that quality at a comparable price anymore. I guess the major speaker companies can't make money this way. The studio monitors that have been mentioned here look like great choices for high quality sound at a decent price.
