Question: Request your input on buying this speaker:

http://www.boseindia.com/retail/bose-product-detail.aspx?prd_Id=64&Cat_Id=655

I know a person who is willing to sell his Bose Companion 2 Speakers which he bought 3 years ago for Rs.3000 less (quoted price Rs.5000).

I went and had a demo, i do not see a big reason to buy it. No bass ( of course, it does not have woofer).

I think it will a durable and long lasting piece of equipment.
-Just for this reason alone should I buy this?

Are there any good alternative , fantastic speakers? I am willing to spend Rs.10000 ( $178)

Bose is never worth the price. A t-amp and some bookshelf speakers will cost half that and sound loads better. Dont know what you can get in India but I'll list a really good combo for you anyway. Lepai lp-2020a+ (t-amp) and Dayton Audio B652 (speakers)

All that Bose advertising you see doesn't come free. These days, they don't sell speakers, they sell "experiences."
Yes, they have made some great speakers, but you can usually find much better deals for the price.

I'm going to second weez's suggestion of the t-amp + decent bookshelf speakers.
If you want bass, add a cheap powered subwoofer like this Polk PSW10: http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-10-.../dp/B0002KVQBA

You should be able to get all of those for under Rs 10000.

For rs10000 you can't get even the cheapest Polk speakers in India, and even the cheapest amp costs at least 10k. You can cosider Audioengine A2 if you want around 10k. But honestly for re5000 or sub $100 you can't go wrong with Bose.

Friends don't let friends buy bose.

Bose is not an investment, they are no better than an other speakers and normally worse. Don't think that they will last forever, cheap paper drivers with foam surrounds generally don't have the best shelf life.
