Born in 1979. Gen X, or Gen Y?

i'm going with GenX just because i don't like those lazy GenY emo bastards.

helps that my father was born before the end of the war so he's not a boomer.

although according to demographers cited by wikipedia modern history repeats every 4 generations and so millenials are a repeat of the greatest generation. why not be associated with that?

I'm born in 1980. Every chart I've seen either listed GenX or there was a fucking gap in the years until 82-84 where no generation was listed. So I guess its Generation X by default.

Generation X was actually formed in 1976, but Billy Idol went solo in 1981 and released his debut solo album in 1982.

Huh, I was born in 1981 and always figured I was squarely gen. Y

I thought kids more than a couple years younger than me were considered millenials.

You're in the same generation as me - the generation that carries the social security burden of the boomers and the gen Y general uselessness. That will also be the generation that fixes this country.

Born in 79 here also. It was awesome growing up because we got to grow up in the 80's. The golden age of TV (cartoons). Kids could go outside without parental supervision still. Nintendo anyone?

This. I remember roaming from sun-up till sun-down around the neighborhood. After watching G.I. Joe and Transformers, of course

The wiki article seems to be all over the place. It says 78 to 82 are the most common starting point then lists Pokeman and Power Rangers as influences growing up. I think the 78 to 82 range (of which I am a part of) was "too cool" for kids stuff when those two programs were popular. Thundercats, Transformers, GI Joe and the like were big, and of course Star Wars.
