satori, do you read Car and Driver? They has a "Battle of the Beaters" contest where 3 editors were given $1000 each and they had to find the best "car" for that price. They drove the hell out of those things including:

Seeing if a snooty country club would valet park the car - Valets weren't impressed by RX7's screwdriver key.
Drive it through a river
Longest skid mark - one editor cheated by urinating on the tire
Most "Zoot" - One editor set the "Chronometer" to "Medical" and wans't sure whether it was for the dentist or proctologist. No problem because it was the same guy.

Great article.

Battle of the Beaters

It's not as funny without the pictures and charts. If i can dig up the magazine, I;ll scan them in.

They include:
Camero having "minor" damage fixed up. IE. 16oz can of bondo being applied to Grand Canyon Sized gash.
RX7 + owner up to waist in dirty water and after river crossing failed

One chart had the category called "Unexplained Stalls" which soemthing like
Rabbit - 5
Camero - 10
RX-7 - 347,583,465

and "Attempts needed to find 1st gear"
Rabbit - 4
Camero - 1
RX7 - 9,874,359,374

One car even has a bullet hole in it. :)

Enjoy

Windogg: Haha!! That's the article that gave my friend and I the idea. :) I figured if I ever do get a nice car, it'd be nice to have a backup car when I need to drive into the area with the clubs, etc.

That is one of the funniest articles I have ever read.

I swear, the Rabbit sounds JUST like Jonnyguru's Rabbit, albeit a lot more beat up. (Make it to the 'yard today Jonny?) Wait 'til he puts the turbo in! :Q

Thanks! :D

Supersix, did you catch the part about the "metal cheez doodles" welded onto the shift linkage? LOL

Here's another one guys. Not as funny as "Battle of the Beaters" but still an intersting read. Again, a few things get lost without the pics. The best pic has the caption, "Our two editors testing yet another Alternative Fuel Source plus groin pull." It shows them pushing the car. They were given a Sig Sauer 9mm since because their assignment has them going to some real ghetto neighborhoods.

Cross Country on Natural Gas

A slightly better one is "One Seat Across America" where they loaded a huge diesel tank into the trunk of a Jetta TDi, sealed two editors inside it and force them to drive cross country without stopping. They ripped out the backseats and fitted a "ghetto toilet" for nature's call.

Hmmm.... The Rabbit "won".

Don't know if I should be flattered or insulted.

For the record, my Rabbit is in much better condition than the one in the Battle of the Beaters and I know that SuperSix knows it. ;)

Honda does make a V-8 for F1 cars. No twin-turbos, but I think it's pulling around 700-800hp. $20k is the hard part;)
