Borders/ Waldenbooks 30% off book/CD/DVD coupon

I tried this coupon once.

If the item you wish to buy is xx% off, and most books there are xx% off the retail inflated price on the book jacket, they said the coupon was only valid on items that were priced at the retail price found on the book jacket.

Same for CDs. The retail price of CDs sold there is as much as $18-$20 so even with the coupon, it's more than in electronic stores that have them priced $9.99 to $13.99 at most.

I mean, who buys books at retail jacket prices? You can just get them online from reputable stores for less without a coupon.

"You can just get them online from reputable stores for less without a coupon."

and they can sit around on the phone w/ credit card company if the website gets hacked
no thanks

that's a little paranoid. are you really afraid of buying online from amazon? do you padlock your milk so "the man" can get into it too?

still, the coupon can get you some pretty good deals. I remember buying The Complete Far Side with a similar coupon and it ended up being much cheaper than i could find anywhere else.

"do you padlock your milk so "the man" can get into it too?"

i don't drink milk

however since that type of example was proposed, let me also relate that two crackheads broke into my apartment and stole 4 cases of coca cola along with the stereo system and videogame consoles
now what?

You're still paranoid. THATS what. Better not buy any books in the store and take them home either - someone will just steal them. 😀

Unless the previous coupon was different than this one, whoever told you that doesn't know how to read. The coupon clearly says "30% Off the Regular Price of One Item", and if you read the fine print, it says "May not be combined with other coupons or corporate, classroom, or other group discounts, except the Preferred Reader® discount." Nowhere on the coupon does it say that sale items are excluded.

If you want to buy something that is $20.00, but it's currently on sale for 20% off ($16.00), they should take 30% off of the non-sale price and sell it to you for $14.00.

no need to worry. THIS is AMERICA.

now grin about that
