I got Brick and the hunter up to level 50 in two playthroughs almost for each. The game really gets tough during the second play. Too bad you can't go above 50.

Still have to try the siren and the soldier. The hunter is just too much fun, once you get a sniper high proficiency

You can go above level 50 if you buy the third expansion/DLC, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. It allows you to go to 61.

The fourth expansion/DLC is coming out this month as well.

EDIT:

Apparently said DLC comes out on the 28th (same day as Dead Rising 2!)... http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Claptrap%27s_New_Robot_Revolution . Some pictures and information there.

It's fairly easy. Roland makes it easy to whittle down HP with the turret+shield+healing+ammo cover mechanic on enemies with guns. On melee enemies, just remember 1 thing. Circle strafe. A lot and shoot for criticals, which is not all too difficult.

I now play a hunter, which isn't difficult either. Massive crits, ammo regen mod and circle strafe some more. Take cover behind anything convinent when needed and level up to the 100% shield bypass talent.

With the siren, get the shield bypass pistol and fire away. Stealth to heal.

Never played Brick but they seem to die a lot so whatever.

Either way take your time, it's not a difficult game at all, unless you're Brick.

Most of the worst enemies can be sniped so get a revolver, sniper or hyperion scoped rifle and plug away at it depending on class. You definitely can't Rambo the game. If you snipe Bonehead from far enough, his SMG isn't accurate enough to really hurt you.

Borderlands is all about the level difference between you and the enemies. Fighting on-level mobs with 4 people is a pretty good experience for both veteran and newer gamers, but the problem is that this rarely occurs.

My group has the opposite problem that you do where we tend to do all of the side missions and therefore the game is far too easy because we have a couple of levels on whatever we fighting. This is even true on the second playthrough we're working on now, and my group has a couple of complete FPS newbies. There really isn't a good solution to this and is one of the reasons why I personally prefer scaling enemies.

I play and like all of the characters, but I should point out that Brick can be a very strong character at higher levels if you go down the tank/rocket launcher lines with complimentary class mods. I actually found it too boring because I almost never died, and when I did something crazy enough to get killed I would always have enough time to get a second wind (and back up to full health/shields) from even a boss due to the duration extensions. Spiderants are the only mob he needed to switch away from a RL for.

I disagree... I find it very easy to Rambo the game with a good Class Mod and a proper build. But of course, this depends on what you're fighting too... my Siren build can destroy many people without even losing a single life point, but it doesn't do as well against bosses given it works off kills.

Also, I usually snipe with whatever type of gun I have the most skill in. My Soldier snipes with Assault Rifles :D. Of course, I have to carry ones with around 95%+ accuracy to even do this.

That's what happened to me also playing with Brick, I found myself sniping a lot, but you really don't have to, he's got serious life and upgrades for prolonged second wind. Usually u can use the ability easily enough everywhere, except maybe Old Haven. Those soldiers can be tough in packs

Depends on what build you want to go for really.

I'm going to link to somewhere with a wealth of info: http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=108033

I usually spec around what COMs i get earlier in the game, since it's harder to find good ones.

Contrary to what an above poster said, you most definitely can rambo your way thru the game, which is precisely how i tend to play.

As long as you go down with enemies nearby, second winds aren't hard to get (assuming you don't go down too often).

My PT1 build of Roland would likely finish something like this: http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/skilltree/roland/#01505000000000005550005
I like shotties though, & i always go for stat as it makes survivability a LOT easier when up close in the action.

End game would look more like this: http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/skilltree/roland/#01505510050511535550005
I'll always go for supply drop to avoid having to worry about ammo & using the crappy support gunner COM.

Obviously, there are a lot of routes you can do, but i'd definitely keep an eye out for good COMs to build around.

If you play with a group, the support gunner class mod is actually really good for Roland because that frees everybody else to pick class mods that don't include ammo regen (such as team accuracy, cooldown reductions, shield/health regens). That in turn lets you pick a shield with a big health bonus instead of health regen, which stacks nicely with Roland's health % upgrades.

All of the classes do very well in a Rambo build when skilled right (even Mordecai in Gunslinger), but Lilith is probably the best. She is basically unkillable w/70% damage mitigation coming out of phasewalk and phasewalk cooldown reducing skills that let her go right back into it as soon as the damage mitigation ends, and the AoE stuff really puts out a lot of damage when you have them maxed out.

My Lilith build uses shield regen with very large shields, but I've been considering phasewalk builds. It looks like they implemented actual Steam achievements since I last played as well!
