Borderlands curiosity

I haven't played this since the week it was released. Two acquaintances of mine power-leveled me to level 21 from 7 (meaning I had no idea what the hell was going on while they bulldozed all the enemies) and then dropped me like a molten rock. I haven't touched it since.

So my questions are these: Are the dlc packs worth buying? Is the game beatable solo? And what tweaks does the game really need to be enjoyable? I remember there being an FOV tweak and numerous others but I don't remember how to use them. Thanks for any help. I own the game, might as well beat it, even though I need to start over.

The Zombie Island of Dr Zed is worth it imo. I wouldn't bother with Madd Moxi though unless you get a group of people to play with regularly, or if you like going up against wave after wave after wave of enemies, oh yeah, if you want a storage area then you need to get Madd Moxi as well.

I went through and beat the game and all the missions twice on my siren solo. All the classes can solo through the game though, it isn't really difficult.

Yeah it's ok solo but better with friends. It's a phenomenal game, though, especially on splitscreen with your girlfriend! ~_^

The game is easiest solo. But it really needs to be played with other people. The more people you add the harder it gets, and this means the drops are better. I've played through the game with 2 people and 3 people and I can tell you the difference was VERY noticeable. I wouldn't suggest playing the game solo, but if you have friends it's worth it.

Zombie Island is ok if you've beat the main game and want more content. Moxxi is ok, but really only worth it if you play the game alot, still gun hunt on playthrough 2.5 and stuff. The storage is super nice to have too.

There is another DLC coming sometime that looks good as it is supposed to raise the level cap which will be nice.

Forgot about the DLC....

Zombie Island is fun and pretty funny at some points, definitely worth the $5-10.

Mad Moxie's is great because it is challenging, so it adds some high level legs to the game. I think it's worth getting but I also think Borderlands was the game of the year for 2009. Draw your own conclusions from that.

I never got either DLC, but I really liked this game, loads of fun...

If they had the Zombie island one for around 5 I might get it, I have no plans of ever buying the other one.

Loved playing through Borderlands and the Zombie Island DLC.
Mad Moxxie I wish I would have skipped, but it was cheap.
I've never regretted buying DLC until then. 🙁
Mind numbingly boring even with good teammates.

Definitely playable by yourself, why else would they make it? I've beaten it on the first playthrough twice, the second playthrough once, and finishing up the second. I'm just playing it as-is from the CD (DVD?), no tweaks or whatever needed.

I really liked Borderlands for the time it lasted for me, it was addicting, but that was when I was playing it off-line for the first time. I beat it twice, on each Playthrough, and reached Level 50 with Siren, that was before the DLCs were released, so after beating it a second time I found myself at an impasse, there was nothing left to do (I had completed all side-quests), and since the game is barely randomized (outside of the loot) then most of it was quite predictable, especially the enemy spawning areas which are always the same, so you eventually know by heart where you need to go if you want to fight, and you know where not to go if you just want to "rush" everything (but that ain't fun, I'm just saying it's possible).

What really put the last nail to the coffin for me with Borderlands is the horrible on-line games management, there's absolutely no way to filter and set host-side rules to the games I host, I cannot control the minimum or maximum ping of the players who join my game, I cannot perma-ban them if they are troublesome (and curiously there's lots of immature kids... or worse, immature adults playing Borderlands on PC, not sure why) so it's exactly like Left 4 Dead, you really need to play with friends to have fun with this on-line. But I haven't played it ever since I stopped, which was before the DLCs were released, and I do not know if one of or both DLCs added new on-line features and ways for a host to set game rules, but even if it did I don't think I'd bother buying any of them since I for one don't know enough people on Steam who play this, or who play it at least regularly.

But despite all of that I really did have lots of fun with it for the time it lasted, and it certainly was very addictive. With that said I won't play it again for a couple of months until I don't remember anything about the story-line and have to start it again eventually to refresh my memories about it. But for those who do have friends who play it often enough and who are mature enough to play it then I could surely understand why and how Borderlands can be fun, it just ain't the case for me, and I think it's a shame to be honest, the raw potential behind Borderlands is just mind-blowing, it just sadly wasn't exploited at its fullest.
