Great news but what will be the 3rd like be because Borderlands 2 had everything in the game? I had so much fun playing B2 I think I spent over 300 hours on it if not more. I am still excited about it though.

Was Borderlands ever out of Gearbox's hands? Seriously asking here, don't follow the BL franchise too much but did enjoy 1 and 2. Thought those were made by Gearbox.

Good I guess? I didn't expect anything different. Seemed like the bigger question was if there would be another real sequel. Its not a bad thing for them to take some time away though, and not run it into the ground. I think people were getting a bit burned out on it by the second game (seemed like most people weren't that interested in the pre-sequel, although I don't know how well it sold; not that it was bad, it seemed to get decent reviews but I just wasn't interested).

I enjoyed 1 more than 2. The latter was good but something about it didn't quite hook me as much.

I really hope they take the logical step of adding crafting. They have the perfect setup for it, and it'd make the wonky way of getting new equipment a lot better. Lots of times you'd have what seemed like the perfect gun but it'd have some weird thing that made you never want to use it (like it'd shoot weird and so your accuracy would suck), and in Borderlands 2 they just dropped so much stuff that sorting through it was a pain, especially when you built up later on (where you'd have like all the elemental version for 3 different gun types and then several rarer ones, and different skill mods and everything). And then you could have a gun that should be better in every way but would suck somehow. It'd be nice to have some ability to play with certain aspects, and there's all sorts of things they could do that would make it really fun where you could craft all sorts of oddball stuff.

The Pre-Sequel wasn't done by Gearbox. I think there was some question about the franchise continuing even.

2K Australia took the reigns on the Pre-Sequel and while it was fun, they just strayed too far from the original for me to get pulled in like I did with BL and BL2. I played BL2 before the first game and sunk over 2,000 hours (15 minutes of those 2,000 hours were spent co-op) before I tried the first game. When I played the first game, I believe I went almost to 1,000 hours before putting it down. The Pre-Sequel just had too many annoyances (direct copies from BL2 showed some of their laziness) and I really didn't like the skill trees of the characters. I loved the backstory the game brought and I pushed myself to finish just to hear everything, but it just wasn't Borderlands to me.

Jesus christ man. 3000 hours on borderlands?

It's a loot grind/build type of game, so that is probably easy to do for serious end-game types

I feel like I've put a lot of time into this series, but combing all 3 so far, I don't think I've hit 700 hours. People who love these games love it for the loot.

As for Gearbox--they do these really well. I haven't really played anything else from them, so I only know them for Borderlands.

....and this is excellent news. Better not be MMO....

Sounds great. I'm happy with that decision. Pre-Sequel wasn't good. The areas were not interesting imo and the plot didn't grab me. I didn't even finish it.

I played BL1 and BL2 through the ground though.

This probably isn't too big of a surprise. I mean... the Borderlands series is where they most likely make the most money, and after a string of middling games (the latest being Battleborn), Gearbox needs to pick up the slack a bit. 2K essentially needs them to make the "blockbuster game" if they want to keep putting out the "indies" (reference to Hollywood and cheaper, low-return movies, not actual indie games).

gearbox should just stick with story driven pve...

i admit, they have one of the best character designs, and there selection of voice actors are great.

however they SHOULD NOT attempt the moba / pvp aspect because battleborn has shown us they utterly suck, and do not know what the hell balance means.

I'm sure I'll buy it eventually.

I just love the characters and their interactions too much.

Though the pre-sequel did feel more like an extended DLC than a full fledged game.

I think for 3 they should have multiple worlds and at the start of the game you have to choose which vault hunters go to which worlds, and the possibilities change per play through depending on that initial decision.

If they're feeling like dicks they could make each world it's own "episode."

I love the game but that's probably my least favorite thing about it. I like the gameplay, story (witty dialog and interesting characters), artistic direction, etc.

That's fair, but do you put hundreds of hours into them after one or two playthroughs? The games are relatively short, but the loot table and build system is what keeps a lot of people playing and grinding out hours through dozens of playthroughs just to tweak out all of their characters.

While I don't like the normal-vault hunter-ultimate playthrough design, I don't imagine that most players that still like the game have the patience to go through all of those play modes over and over and over again, and on multiple playthroughs, if they don't like collecting high end loot.

The systems are different, too. I much prefer BL1 loot table to BL2, even though I probably put more time into BL2 (better characters overall, even though I still think Lilith from BL1 is the best of the series). BL1 offers more variety and much less grind for getting desired gear, because BL2 and TPS system pretty much requires you to get Legendary gear if you want to max out your builds--there are a few exceptions with some gear, of course.

at least, that's my assumption.

This is great news! I have probably close to 700 hours between BL1 and BL2 (500+ in BL2). I don't own and have never played the Pre-Sequel.

Pre-Sequel is the same as the Borderlands 2 but with additional features like laser guns and low gravity because you are located on the moon, though the game is not funny like B2. I found the game overall very fun to play.

I put a couple of hundred hours in BL2 without getting into build / loot optimization.

I enjoyed playing each of the different characters in BL1 - BL2 except Brick and Zero, I'm useless at melee. Different powers changes the game. I also enjoyed the second difficulty level in BL1 - BL2 since gameplay changed again (more powers to play with).

As odd as it was, I never got into the raid boss grinds like a lot of people did. My play-time was spent optimizing my builds and making new ones. When I realized that you could one-shot most bosses, I spent a lot of time trying to one-shot them all. Then I found out Maya was better suited for sniping and Zer0 has the highest single-target damage potential in the game. Then came some really fun glitches to play around with (Evil Smasher glitch was ridiculous with an Infinity).

So far it seems Gearbox is using the same team from Borderlands 1+2 for the third installment.

It would seem silly for them to completely neglect the PC, but I can't find any information for PC development and there were rumors thrown around on the official Gearbox forums that some of the main PC developers/coders were not hired back for this game.

That probably just means they hired fresh meat to put in the 170 hour work weeks now that the old guard has burned out.

BL1-2 were huge on PC, they are not going to ignore that giant pile of money when the PS4 and X1 are basically PCs too.

PS3 and X360 are being dropped for many new games now, because sales are down and they are feeble PowerPC based systems that do not easily allow shared development with PC.
