BOOTMGR is missing

Hi, I have a Asus Rampage Formula motherboard and can't get past post... Message says "BOOTMGR" is missing... Reloaded new BIOS and still didn't fix it... Any ideas are welcome, Thanks...

Bootmgr is part of the OS not the BIOS. Put your system disk in and boot from that running repair. What OS are you using?

Win. 7 Ultimate 64 bit... If I install OS disk the DVD drive will not spin up... In BIOS set-up the boot priority is set to DVD Rom as first, tried reboot several times still no success... This computer has worked great for two years ! First with Win. XP Pro, Then with Win. 7 since last fall when it was released... Possibly somehow got corrupted ?

When you set boot priority in the BIOS, are you saving the new configuration before booting to windows? You might try a usb drive with DOS or an IOS.

Yes, F10 save and exit... May have wipe the Hard Drive (1 GB) totally clean with my Max Blast 3.6 booting from floppy drive... One more thing, when BOOTMGR is displayed on LCD monitor screen, the LCD poster (ASUS cool thingy) displays "DET IDE"... Hope this helps ?

Have you got both SATA and IDE drives? If so, when you set boot priority, did you set the drive with the OS on it as the third choice? The ASUS feature just makes your monitor act like a diagnostic LED for the MB.

Problem solved ! Thanks for your help Magnus... You pointed me in the correct direction and you were right, it was'nt the BIOS at all... Finally resorted to "zero filling" the 1 GB HDD (931 actual)... Took 40 hours, then O/S loaded just fine... Again thanks...
