Booting woes.. will load safe mode but not XP. M4A785TD-Evo

Well I just set up a new system a few hours ago, and windows wouldn't boot from either of two existing installations of XP SP2 on different hard drives [from another system], but it will boot safe mode w/networking fine. The system crashes with a BSOD [STOP 0x0000007B, also ...7E] when attempting to start windows normally. No driver or dll mentioned or code string with it. The memory passes memtest solidly, bios current, video card checked, all peripherals and features disabled in the bios. I feel like I have tried everything I know short of attempting to install an operating system fresh, which is probably what is wrong in the first place. But I thought it was worth asking about before I did or get some assurance that that is actually the problem.

-Assuming it's a windows problem, Is there a way to fix what might be going on with the windows configuration short of losing any data on the drive? As it would be a hassle for me to free up an entire drive for a fresh install.

setup:
Asus m41785td-evo
965 deneb
gtx460
corsair 750w
seagate 7200.7

If it boots OK to SAFE Mode, thatis a pretty good indicator that the problem is in one of your Start Up drivers. You can further diagnose this by running MSCONFIG and unchecking any start up that is not Microsoft. Probably one of your 3rd party drivers is causing a memory conflict.

I will try this now

OK - then if it loads Windows OK, you can add by check box, the 3rd party drivers one at a time until you find the offender.

Just a thought - I see you are at SP2. Could be that some things you have installed require SP3. ???
