my current problem on one of our office computers happened after I changed the motherboard we purchased a new "PC chips K7" because it was 24.99 and we're buying a new computer soon anyway but need it to work now...

the install went smoothly everything spins up fans, hdd, et cetera all remains on but the monitor stays black if you unplug the videocard it says not connected and when you plug it back in that goes away but it doesn't turn on I've tried switching monitors and switching videocards and testing the videocard and monitor it normally runs on with another computer none of that made any change and all parts work fine with other computers... any ideas?
 
Might be the jumpers on mainboard.. Move the jumper settings to default then put it back to normal. (follow your mainboard manual. you can download them from the website!) Another options are removing CPU and RAM then re-inserting them back. You need to be discribe your status in more detail for further suggestions from other ppl.
 
mobo jumper and ram have already been tried I'll try the ram again and the CPU.

not sure how much detail I can include theres no warning lights no warning sounds it's throwing no codes at all the computer seems to be running fine other than the lack of showing up on screen...

reason for buying the new board was the computer was having HDD issues and random reboots I reinstalled the OS did nothing so I checked the HDD and replaced it that removed all the HDD issues but the random reboots continued so I swapped the PSU, ram, video, with another computer and it all checked out so I swapped them back and replaced the mobo and now you can turn the computer on and it will stay running overnight or longer which is better than before because it would randomly shut off after 5 minutes to 5 hours with no errors or codes... but as stated now I have the problem of a black screen I was thinking possibly bad AGP slot but usually then the monitor just says it needs a signal even when connected or the computer throws a code when you turn it on
 
I had an AGP slot on a board once that got some of the connectors all scrunched up in the bottom of the slot. I was able to straighten them up and the board worked for years before I retired it.

Unless that's the problem on yours, I'd say you've got a bad motherboard.

Assuming you're swapping parts, are you certain the video card is compatible with the new board? There was a timeframe where cards would fit but not work due to voltage differences.

Getting way out on a limb now.

The pcchips site is down right now, so I can't look at any specs on the board. I may be way off base.
 
I don't recall specs on either at the moment I think one is a MX 400 GeForce 2 and the other is a Radeon 7200 so both are quite old I was unaware that there was a time without standard voltages and don't know much about voltage compatibility anyway I worry slightly about it on overclocking but most of the boards I use for that match it up automatically... if you could check for me or let me know how to find out if those cards are compatible that may be of some help
 
alright we're just going to assume the board is defective(or the voltage situation) because other than the random reboots the old board works in it and a friends board works fine in it so hopefully frys.com(outpost.com) is as good with returns as fry's stores are
