I am currently set up in ABIT KT7a and 1ghz Tbird. I have 2 maxtor drives setup in Raid but with no data in yet. I am currently booting thru my primary IDE channel. I also installed win 98 in the Raid array and I changed all the booting devices to ATA 100 RAID int he bios and also went into the raid Bios andset it as boot disk but I still can't boot off raid any ideas?

Your statement is kind of confusing.. you have 2 maxtors setup in Raid with no Data, yet you have windows installed in the Raid.. Remove your bootable drive from the standard IDE, and reboot with boot disk..it should then see your array, if you havent installed windows with this machine in the array, fdisk to create the primary partition and then format and reinstall windows.. if there is a properly installed windows in the raid array then try fdisk/mbr and reboot, sometimes that works sometimes not.. When I transferred from one motherboard raid array to another I had to fdisk, format, and reinstall. Right now it seems its just going for the first bootable partition it is finding and thats on the IDE

thanks for your help, you sound like the person I need to talk to. This is my first raid array. I am sorry is I was confusing. But I have 2 MAXTOR ATA 100 setup as primary and second masters in the RAID controllers as recommended. But I also have a full complement of standard IDE drives which I am booting off of. SO you are saying I need to REMOVE PHYSICALLY my Standard boot device? SO If I want to boot raid, I can't have anything in the Primary Standard IDE? I can't just change the BIOS?

You just dont want to have a bootable operating system onboard..you can keep all your CDroms etc..then after you install the Raid operating system, you can add your other HDD as a storage drive or as a dual boot system, but you dont want two bootable Win98s on there .. Setup bios to boot to the raid controller A,SCSI,C would be common or if it is like the Abit I815 set to boot to floppy first, ATA100 RAID second, then boot to your bootdisk, fdisk, create the primary boot partition, then reboot to boot disk again and format and install windows. I hope I am not confusing you here. :)

So will formatting the Primary booting disk help? How do I set the RAID array as the C:Drive in fdisk?
