Booting from SCSI CD-ROM question...

I'm using an Adaptec 2940AU card. In the SCSI BIOS, I have enabled my DVD-ROM's SCSI ID as bootable, and enabled the option to boot from a CD-ROM. In the KT7 BIOS, I made the 2nd boot option SCSI, 1st is floppy, 3rd is ATA100. When I boot with a bootable CD though, it just goes on the hard drive. Do I need to enable the option in the SCSI BIOS to treat removeable disks as fixed for booting purposes, or is there something else I've missed?

Yes, there is a setting in the SCSI bios that needs to be enabled to boot from a CD. I don't remember where it is in the Adaptec bios off hand, but from what I do remember you should find a menu with an option for making the CDROM bootable.

right, there is one that's already enabled that specifically says it's for booting from a CD, but there's something else about making removable disks appear fixed..... I'm just not sure why it's not working:confused:

I don't know if the KT7 BIOS has it, but there's another line in the Advanced BIOS Setting of my Tyan motherboard that specifically says boot from SCSCI device.

My MB won't boot to scsi at all (any device) when I have an ide drive attached. I think the IDE takes priority before SCSI when present.

Well, at least I'm not alone. Bish, I would tend to agree with you, but I thought the purpose of setting the boot order in the mobo BIOS was to get around this. In theory anyway. Hasn't anyone had any luck getting this to work?

Most of my experience is with 2940UW/2940U2W cards, and they will flag a CD as bootable when they are scanning the drive at card initialization time. Does it say anything about having detected a bootable CDROM in the drive?

no I never saw any message like that. I'm going to try and get hold of some more bootable CD's and see what happens
