Correction: They need a version of the R600 that outperforms the 8800GTS 320MB at the same price-point as that card. Whether or not it'll be "stripped down" depends on how well the R600 performs overall. If the R600 outperforms the 8800GTX then yes. If it can barely match the 8800GTX then they can't strip much off it to save $$$ while still being competitive with the GTS.

Um. I'm gonna guess people who actually buy these cards care about pricing? Other than the epeen set, a vast majority of hobbyists care about bank/buck, to some extent.

This reminds me of the X1800 introduction almost exactly 18 months ago. A card that barely beat the then-unchallenged-champion, the 7800. With a MSRP of $650.

Yeah, I'm sure that sold in huge amounts -- I picked mine up a few months later for $259.

This is looking exactly like the same situation. A product many months late within 5-10% of the competition won't make headlines. Those with an 8800 already will not have a compelling reason to upgrade. And the value vultures like me will settle in to wait.

X3000 to come within 3 months?

Does anyone have any decent idea as to when the card may launch? Any general areas? Within the month? Within the next 3 months? Next 6? Next year? Ect... Any idea at all will help me out. I am going to be buying an 8800GTX in the upcoming month or so, but if the R600 will be coming out shortly, then I will have reason to wait.
Two weeks from now or so, more or less, probably more than less based on ATI's track record lately. :p

Thanks.

Hmm... Which one should I spend my money on? The mortgage, or that new GTX?

Amen! :D

Well...... maybe $250 :p
