Is it safe to purchase one now or is there a refresh coming soon. I know they did one in October of last year but I don't know their product cycle.

Thanks for any input.

They updated it twice last year, but before that it had been a year and a half since the previous update.

Is hdmi all their going to add?

Probably an i3 or i5 chip. But there's no known date.

If you can live without the HDMI, then go ahead and get one. But if you want it as a HTPC without all the hassle even once and a while, then I'd wait.

Ya I'm just going to replacing my 2007 mac mini the graphics are having artifacting so I just need it for my server.

I did ask apple and they said it is not possible. I had thought that if the memory was clocked higher then what the controller can do it would just down clock it correct?

If its for a file server if i were you i would buy a pc, like one of those smaller dells, it will have a hdmi and you have more software options, like playon for the xbox or ps3, media center, tversity, ps3media center, hulu, boxee, plus u can have utorrent with webui to remotely load torrents from another computer, (legal torrents of course lol)

a pc makes a much better file server and windows 7 is not bad at all

Thats not true, and this is coming from someone whos main computer is a macbook.

playon has hulu, espn.com / CBS / youtube / amazon video / netflix / all kinds of other shit and also it accepts plugins like firefox, people have made lastfm plugins, ustream plugins, live Tv plugins.

theres nothing on the mac that can do all that in one program, let alone some of those things individually.

Yea.. I've had Windows 7 on my Media Center box for a little while and I like it. Still haven't found great alternatives to the Remote Control app that I have in OS X. But overall, it's been good, especially with the new Boxee client.

safari -> 5 tabs

Seriously, why are we making this shit harder than it has to be.

and my comment was mainly towards these "media center, tversity, ps3media center, hulu, boxee, "

I received my mac mini. My next question is will the snow leopard disc have windows 7 drivers on it or can I just install the 3.1 update( which I believe to be the latest correct me if I am wrong please.)

The Vista drivers on the Snow Leopard disc work with 7. Once you install them, you can upgrade them to the official 7 drivers.

But can we burn a CD ahead of time so we can install them only one time? I also would like more info in this. Can I burn it using windows XP from another computer or do we need to use OS X to burn the bootcamp cd?

You shouldn't need to burn a CD.

The Snow Leopard install disc is a dual formatted disc. Pop it in when you finish installing Windows 7 and it will popup a prompt for you to install the drivers. Then you can download the 3.1 update via Apple Software Update.

I completely understand that. However I am never the one to install old drivers and then update immidiatly when new drivers can just be obtained directly with a tad extra effort. What my question is, can we make a fresh driver disc somehow and use that so we do not have to use the vista drivers and then run the apple update.

Yea, I agree. I hate that part of Apple's driver model for Windows. I know "why" they do it, so that people have to buy Snow Leopard, but it's quite annoying.

I did a quick Google search and didn't find anything that looked remotely helpful about doing this. I did just install Windows 7 on my wife's machine, though and the upgrade process went smoothly.

So it is basically apples way of making you buy 10.6. I see, that does explain things. Greedy greedy.................

I have in the past gotten the updated driver packages from torrent sites. You can get the entire executables, and then drop it on jump drive.

I am planning to use 64bit. It seems I have run into some problems. First when booting off the windows 7 x64 dvd it gives me a setup option "windows set ems support". I hit f8 and selected normal startup. It hesitated for a little bit in the expanding files part but got through it. Before the first restart it tell me that setup could not complete the installation and reverts all the progress. Please don't tell me that I can't install windows 7 x64 on this machine. What can I do?

BTW this is not through bootcamp this is a complete fresh install. I've never had this problem with my older mac mini but that was only vista 32bit.
