Bootable XP CD?

Mr Bob

Golden Member
I'm looking for an XP utility type cd, it is one that allows you to boot directly from the CD into windows. This isn't the recovery/repair cd, but is one that contains a runable OS actually on the CD.

Anyone know where I can download it at?

I know this doesn't answer your question, but wouldn't a thumbdrive make more sense? I've never seen a full sized OS run from CD before.

Do you have an i386 folder on your PC. If so, you can make a bootable XP CD.

The OP is not looking for a bootable install CD, I believe he actually wants to BOOT into xp from the CD. I have done this with 98SE on a thumbdrive, but have never seen or heard of it being done via CD. And yes, I've looked...(been years though)

Bart PE / UBCD4Win for DIY. Pre-made ones may found if you poke around a bit but discussing them here may be frowned upon despite having a legit license to make your own.

Figures this comes out long after I have any use for it, I would've given my weak arm for this back in the day. Maybe not, but I would've considered a finger 🙂

Anyone have any experience with this? Looks like a real timesaver to me

I've used BartPE; very customizable and very nice. On their forums, apparently some people run their daily OS using BartPE. I think UBCD4Win is about the same and also supposed to be very good.

As already mentioned, the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and BartPE are products based off of the Windows OEM Pre-Installation Kit, also known as Windows PE.

Differences being, Windows PE is not available to just everyone. UBCD4Win and BartPE are free products, and are almost fully functional versions of Windows that run from the cdrom. Windows PE is kind of limited, with only a command prompt interface (unless you hack at it)
