where can i get a bootdisk for a dvd-rom, is that the same as a cd-rom. i do not have a cd-rom on my new built computer but a dvd-rom and dvd-burner. will the cd-rom boot disk from bootdisk.com xp home work so i can get started and gaming. ?

Hi and welcome to the Anandtech Forums!

If I understand your question correctly... Your DVD-Rom/burner drives should be able to use cds the same way they use DVDs.

thanks for your response. i was just talking to a buddy and he said that my full retail version of winxp home should com with a boot floppy because it is designed for a computer with no o.s. installed on it. i'm at that point where i get to put all the cool new and fast pieces together and hopefully it will work.! again, thanks for your help man wish me luck.

I don't know why it would need a boot disk, because all (or nearly so) computers that meet the minimum requirements for XP should have the ability to boot from a CD. You may need to change your boot order in your BIOS screen (I usually choose floppy first, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM next then HD-0) in order to be able to boot from a CD.
