Boot up issue

So I just finished building my friends PC yesterday. Here are the specs:

Athlon 64 3000+
MSI Neo Platinum
1GB PC3200 Corsair XMS
eVGA Geforce 6800 GT
Audigy 2 ZS
120GB Seagate 7200 RPM SATA
Windows XP Home

Now the computer works great and all, except for the fact that when it boots up it takes like 30 seconds before you can use the internet. Now, I know this isn't right. He has a cable modem that goes to a Linksys wireless router. From there it goes to his PC via ethernet cable. Not wireless. So, maybe we just need to upgrade the firmware on the router? Could that be causing the slow boot up?

Try using it without the router and then try a pci nic card, they're only $10 and sometimes onboard stuff sucks.
