Boot Problems

My wife's computer is about 5 months old.

Recently during cold boots it freezes up at Marvel Controller Initialization. If she just reboots after that everything works great.

So does anyone have any ideas?

Here are her specs:
ASUS P8P67 LE (REV 3.0)
i5 2500k
8 GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X
EVGA 560 ti



A while back she was having similar problems and I pulled the cmos, put it back in, and everything worked fine for a while. So I'm not sure if this is related or not.

Don't use the Marvell controller at all unless there is no way around it....As in you have more drives than the Intel controller can handle. Disable in in bios and forget you even have it is what I always do. It will also somewhat speed up your cold boot time.

+1 I've done this on my rig and the ones i build for friends. More trouble than they are worth.

How do I go about doing this? The only place I see anything about Marvell in the bios will allow me to:

Disable: which doesn't let me boot into windows
IDE: which is what it was set to by default
ACHI: I changed it to this and things seem to be fine right now. Is this what I should do?

If setting it to ACHI fix's the issue then you could leave it I guess. It would be best if you can just get off the Marvell controller all together tho.

Your drive is connected to the Marvell controller? Your windows won't boot if I disable it makes me think so. Take a look and see as it's the navy blue one by the two grey ones. If so you may be able to just switch it to one of the grey ones or the other blue ones and see if it'll boot up. I've never tried it as I just use the Intel SATA's on my rigs. Try it and see. If windows will boot up then you should be good to go back into bios and disable the Marvell controller.

Ah okay. I didn't pay attention when I connected the HDD. I'll swap those out and let you know if that fixes it. Thanks again for all the help.
