boot problems

here's a summary of what i've done

k8vse, 3200+, nec dvdrw nd-2500(secondary ide master), seagate 160gb 8mb pata drive M# st3160023a (primary IDE Master)

i've cleared the cmos....so now i'm trying to boot ol' XP off the CD (home edition...its worked before)

my bios does recognize the DVDRW drive (set as first thing to boot off of) but for some reason its not working.

it says: reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

so what you guys think is the problem? dvd-rw? hd?

Sometimes, at home, I need to open and close the cd tray so it will be running (light on) at boot time. If not the bios wouldnt recognise a boot cd.

Good luck.
