Boot problem

When I turn on my computer, it won't boot up. All it does is to make that humming noise from the power supply, but no OS boots up. I have to press the reboot button everytime I want to use it... I believe it began after a stroke of lightning in our neighbourhood tv-box. I don't have any idea what to do about it.

OK Knas, let me see if I understand you correctly . . .

You try to do a cold boot (booting from a power off position), and it does nothing . . . no beeping, no display. Is this correct?

Then you state that you hit the Reset button and it will boot every time. Is this correct?

If the above assumptions are correct, and given the possibility of a proximity lightening strike, I would suggest that your video card is damaged and is not initializing properly when it first gets power. Try replacing it temporarily with what ever you can find and see if that changes the symptoms.

If not, then your next most likely culprit is something on the motherboard not initializing the first time it gets power . . . replace the motherboard.
