HI

Having trouble with computer Iam building for a friend; although it boots, nothing appears on screen. The bios gives no error beeps of any kind: floppy/cd/hard drive disk lights all come on and appear to be functioning as normal.

Abit KT7A
AMD Thunderbird 1ghz
Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2
Crucial 256mb dimm

All components (cpu, memory & video) work fine on another system. Although I have built a few computers in my time, have never come across this problem. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks!!!

An interesting point about the K7Ta is that it needs a CPU Fan on the CPU power header, if it doesn't have one, it won't be able to boot. It looks for the RPM of the CPU Fan and if it falls below a certain level, I think its 2000RPM, that it will auto shut the system off, and/or won't let you boot. It does alarm though, So this might not be your problem...

Try resetting the bios on the motherboard, with the cmos jumper(10 seconds), remove power from the system before doing this. If still no luck, try removing all cards from the system and reseating the video card.

HI

Know about the fan having to be connected to fan 1, have done this - the fan comes on and works fine - the machine does not shut down (it behaves as normal, but with nothing being output to the screen). In saying this, I have to switch it off at the mains, as the power on switch does not respond once on - have checked to make sure it is connected correctly and it is. Thanks!

Also tried clearing the CMOS, but results are the same. The video card is seated correctly, and it is the only component in the system. Thanks!

Am now offering a Mars Bar to anyone who can solve my problem🙂
