Boot problem

Tried to boot the system yesterday (Abit NF7-S, AMD 2700+) and all i get is a blinking power light. no BIOS screen, no monitor initilization, no IDE power (hard drive dosent spin, cdrom has no power, etc) all the fans work, ive switched connectors and the problems stay with the drives not the power connectors.

ive already replaced the power supply with the same results, i have a feeling the motherboard died.

anyone have suggestions? thanks!

i've had a similar problem... my entire motherboard wasn't dead but somethings on it weren't working. i did an RMA w/ newegg and they shipped me an upgraded version!! good luck!

how do i reset it without being able to get into the bios?
Use the reset jumper on the motherboard.

Look in your manual for it.

I believe on that board , its right above the CMOS battery.

You just pull the pwer plug from your pc, then find the jumper, it will be on two of three pins in a row.
Move the jumper from pins 1&2 to pins 3&4 for 15secs or so, then move it back to pins 1&2, that will reset the bios to its defaults.

ok reset the BIOS, my IDE drives now have power BUT still no video or booting (that i can tell)

tried 2 different video cars, same result. flashing orange light on the monitor. monitor works because im using it on my backup system right now.

check to make sure your power supply is working properly... sometimes bad power supplies can make the weirdest things happen

as i said, ive tried 2 power supplies. that was my first suspicion. same results with a brand new antech one.

flashing power light? sounds like standby mode, but very doubtful

as said by others the psu could do that, but i think that something is wrong between the vid card and the mobo, either they dont like each other or one is bad in some way

haha its not standby mode, everything is ON just nothing is happening.

and even without a video card things would happen, like booting into windows. with sound hooked up there is nothing, hard drive does not seek, load, etc. it just turns on and sits there.

since i reset the BIOS the power light does not flash anymore, but nothing loads.

ok, is there ANY beeps at all? one beep? or any other combo? if there are NO beeps at all that tells me u have a bad cpu... unless newer mobos let the bios handel beep codes, but iirc its the cpu that does that. so no beeps to me = look at cpu

im out if ideas, i have way too many of those kind of situations of power but no activity, and usually its in a slot1 system, so reseating it usually fixes it... GL
